Does anyone know if it is possible to get Bord Gais to bill for Gas used by sending them the meter reading outside of a regular billing period?

an explaination may be useful for this. I just received a bill from bord gais and it was quite low. turns out that it was estimated. Thats all grand but last year, a similar situation occurred with ESB. Bill received was quite low and was estimated, ESB put up their prices and teh next bill was given usign a reading from the meter..which meant that a lot of the electricity used during the time of the lower rate was charged at the new, higher rate instead.

I see that Bord Gais are set to increase their prices by approx 20% in Autumn: Linkeh to Times story from May
and I would very much like to request a bill before the hike usign the actual meter reading so I dont end up paying 20% extra on gas consumed before the increase.

    Has anyone done this before?

When I worked there (2.5 years ago now though), it was only possible to request a bill to be generated based on a customer submitted reading either a) within 14 days of the last bill issue date or b) once 6 weeks had passed since the last bill issue date. If neither of these criteria were met, the reading was recorded on the system but a bill didnt get generated.

Not sure if this has changed since then though.
