Researching the history of Dublin University Rifle Club and we've found reference to a "Colonel Gascoyne's Cup" in a book called 'Rifle Shooting in Ireland' by Arthur B. Leech.

It's was possibly a prize at the old Wimbledon meetings (we're talking 1860's here) perhaps to do with the Elcho Trophy or it was possibly a prize at the Irish Rifle Association Meetings where the Abercorn Cup was awarded.

Anyone know anything about it or anything about the modern history of the Abercorn Cup?

There's an Abercorn Cup shot for by the URA at the Irish Open in Ballykinler. (Annually AFAIK).

Don't know if it's the same one you're interested in, but you could try contacting Trevor Steele http://www.mechengineer.freeserve.co.uk/, he might be able to give you some of the information you are looking for.
