Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Derailleur Hanger

Took a bit of a spill today on loose gravel, no damage to me but the hanger on my felt z95 snapped off.
I wanted to give it a go myself rather than give it into the very busy LBS. I'm not in a hurry as I'm back to work tomorrow (so won't be able to drop the bike in until then anyway) and working right through to next week.
Anyway. The hex head bolt goes through the frame and is threaded into a special fitting.
On the inside of the frame the fitting is about 12mm in diameter and has a normal slot, however their is a piece coming from the outside that would prevent a large flat screwdriver being used. What I could do is get my largest flat driver and grind out a recess in the middle leaving me with two prongs to engage with the slots.
I think the correct term for this type of driver is "winged" or "pronged" I have a set of security drives but the largest is only 8mm.
Is this type of fitting normal, worth buying a special tool for or can I just butcher a large screwdriver?
Also, I checked the dérailleur / chain / spokes etc. for obvious damage, none found, anything I should be looking out for?
    Thanks.

Felt hangers are so bloody soft it's like they're made of butter!!
Generally a hanger bolt will just unscrew by it's self no need for a tool but if not what you would be looking for is a chainring bolt tool,it is exactly what you describe making from a screwdriver, Tacx make a cheap little one that works all right and if you're looking for a new hanger I would recommend the wheels manufacture ones, they aren't cheap but are much stronger than the cheaper molded ones.

    Super, thanks for the info.
Might talk to a toolmaker acquaintance to see if we can rustle something up.
    Thanks again.
