Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have 5 no. 550kg angus bullocks, born June 2010, which i want to finish.
To my mind i've three options:
    1. Pump them with nuts (build up to 4kgs per head per day) from now for 100 days and sell to the factory out of the shed around Xmas
    2. House them at end of October, give nuts for six weeks, send to factory
    3. Let them tip away in the shed for the winter on silage alone, put them out mid March and finish them end of April on fresh grass and six weeks nuts
I've loads of silage and will not be heavily stocked next year.
I killed their female equivalents yesterday and they killed out at 269kgs (515kgs live weight by my calculations) and cleared €955 per head after all deductions, they got the six weeks nuts built up to ~4kgs per day for the last three weeks.
One of them killed out overfat.
    All opinions gratefully appreciated;)

article in da comic reckons you'd need about 4.20/kg carcase to pay you for winter finishing. I reckon sell now and buy something smaller to over winter.

Other alternative is try finishing them off grass by end of Oct, well done thats a good weight for 15 mth steers BTW.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

still not convinced, i've around 500 bales of silage (don't ask:rolleyes:) and this will use up an extra 30 or 40 of them.
The silage should build their frame and two months of meal in February and March(250kgs- €65) will finish them off at around 650kgsLW, 350kgsDW.
