Hen harriers must be migrating to lower land again now because I saw a male one fly beside me on the M6 motorway near ballinasloe today. It was the first male one Ive ever seen for certain.

The ones that breed up beside me (Sleive blooms Co. Offaly) have gone a while now, I think they go to Whyulittle's neck of the woods lough boora for the winter.

The land around that part of the motorway is kind of boggy alright, so thats probably what attracts them there. Great to see them from the car when youre not expecting it!

Do any Whoopers stick around all year long? This shot was taken in Lough Boora in June.

There was a pair that hung around on Inis Mór for the summer last year, presumably non breeding. I don't know if they stayed all through winter but I don't think they were there this summer past.
