He doesn't playcentre back for Stoke, so call him a centre back if you like despite the fact that He has played in midfield and at full back for them.

He only played at CB for Pompey when they had an injury crisis and he was awful in that position before going back into midfield for them.


As for his loan games at Bournemouth some four or so years ago when he was 19 or 20, I can't say that I saw any of those games so maybe he played CB on a regular basis back then.

To be fair, he isn't really a £35million pound signing, he is a Torres - £15m pounds which puts him as a negative value so he is actually cheaper than a free transfer.

I think i'd rather Carroll in this spot tbh. This is one of the few occassions where I think we should try and hoof a few balls onto his head. There's very little room to play through that stoke defence, they're blocking everything.

I think I would change formation now from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1.

Take off Kuyt and Henderson and bring on Carroll and Bellamy.

Lucas and Adam as the two in midfield, Bellamy/Downing as the wide men, Suarez in the middle of that three and Carroll as the target man.
