Small chance of aurora in northern areas this evening. KP 5 expected with a south tilting magnetic field.

If you have clear skies, better get out and have a look!

I am seeing the aurora , at long last, from the back of my house, didnt have to travel far, lovely sight. :D
Tried to get it on camera but crap camera just shows a black screen.

Do you have an exposure option on the camera? Haven't a clue about photography but try sticking it on for 10 seconds or something

Had a look here, perfectly clear skies for a change but too much light pollution from the town

I had the night portrait mode enabled, I just realised I should of had night landscape option on instead. Il try it again to see, although not expecting much from this camera. Aurora was very noticeable around 5 minutes ago again.

From Horn Head last night. Was stunning to watch. Beams exploded high into the sky for about 5 minutes then died away.. Great display.

Very nice thanks. What time exactly was those five minutes?
At around 1.30 I noticed it getting very bright.
I seen some beams ,a few were almost like spot lights reaching straight up.

TWO INCOMING CMEs: A pair of solar eruptions on May 7th hurled coronal masss ejections (CMEs) toward Earth. Forecast tracks prepared by analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab suggests that clouds with arrive in succession on May 9th at 13:40 UT and May 10th at 07:54 UT (+/- 7 hours). The double impact could spark moderate geomagnetic storms. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.

Another Solar Flare ( M - CLass) currently in progress too!

Too much cloud tonight , 2moro will be the chance though with clearing skies in the North.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭lolie

Lovely clear night out tonight, pity nothing happening.
    Kp:2.
For all the flares the past few days nothing much in the way of CME's from them

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭lolie

    Just seen this on Spaceweather.com
INCOMING CME (UPDATED): On May 11th at 23:54 UT, a coronal mass ejection raced away from the sun faster than 1000 km/s. The fast-moving cloud will deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field on May 14th around 14:30 UT, according to a revised forecast track prepared by analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab. Mars is also in the line of fire

Weather wise its looking fairly good for monday night.
    From met.ie
. A cool night on Monday with lows of 2 to 4 degrees and the heavy showers will continue along western and northern coasts
    Fingers crossed so

In 23 minutes KP will be 5.
    http://www.softservenews.com/aurora.htm

Might be hard to see it with the bright night but worth a peek.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,565 ✭✭✭Pangea

Far too bright in the northern horizen to see anything.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭Harps

Yeah the north sky doesn't get dark this time of year so not much hope now until late in the summer

I'm in South East so don't stand a chance, some Donegal people might see something very very late tonight when all the brightness will be gone ?
