READ IT PROPERLY - "RUMORED" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bon Iver, The XX and Sigur Ros would do nicely! And maybe chuck in Warpaint, Laura Marling, Ben Howard, The Knife, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Horrors. I reckon Mumford and Sons could be announced if they are touring again.

elbow, ed sheeran, bell x1, Mumford....
    WTF is this, Oxegen?
I hope all of this is idle speculation and none of them get announced.

Ohhhhhh I'm giddy today, announce something damnit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,829 ✭✭✭Toast

Jim Carroll wouldn't play his cards this close to the announcement unless he was sure so I'd bet that will be 90 to 100% accurate. Fits pretty much all the rumours that have been floating around so far too.

edit: except that article isn't by Jim Carroll..wth.

Exactly, but I think people will use any excuse to try use the lack of Oxegen this year to complain about this years line up. Even before it's actually released.

Sure The Cure played Oxegen, as have Sigur Rós, if people are going to play that card.

Yup there will always be a crossover in acts that can/have played at both festivals like The Cure , Sigur Ros , Elbow , Chemical Brothers , Arcade Fire , Brian Wilson etc

i think it's more that people think Ed Sheeran, Elbow, Mumford and Sons, etc. will attract the oxegen crowd who spend most the weekend in the campsite and have no idea about 95% of the EP lineup, including most of the headliners. they'd rather see Beyonce instead of those weird rocker Cure people...

can understand POD going for these type of acts to get some of the oxegen crowd and ensure a sell-out this year. might not be the best plan in the long-term though, but who knows...

HA yea most of the Oxegen crowd will be going to the Pheonix Park gigs which are a substitute for Oxegen so MCD have them covered . You would swear since Oxegen is gone there wont be anything else for them to go to

Personally i cant stand elbow but i guess i could undetstand them at ep.
I was surprised when Mumford were announced a few years ago tbh.
    Ed sheeran, come on..
EP has some mainstream acts we all know that, to me it doesn't matter if they played before or not. Ed sheeran and his ilk can stay away afaic.

Don't give me that. the cure and sigur were always more of an ep act than an oxegen act. The point is about poor (imo) middle of the road acts which the cure or sigur are most definately not.

Ray D'arcy just announced a few acts there. Glen Hansard, Bell X1, Ed Sheeran. Elbow, The Cure, The Roots.

The Cure; Sigur Rós; Grizzly Bear; Orbital;Hot Chip; The xx; Metronomy great for starters, there are always other great acts announced nearer to the time.

yep, i was looking at the announcements for acts last year, and it was always the ones after the initial announcement that had most of the acts i wanted to see.
June/July/August is when things get properly interesting....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,625 ✭✭✭flyswatter

I'd say I'll go for The Roots alone!

  • Registered Users Posts: 173 ✭✭Shifty11

oh no Ed Sheeran get lots of radioplay, he shouldnt be playing at EP...?
Why does the majority of people focus on the negative? There are plenty of other great acts. really looking forward to Azealia Banks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,933 ✭✭✭H8GHOTI

    John Digweed playing as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

    Electric Picnic
You can add John Digweed to that list!

jesus, why not get guetta and tiesto too...

Yeah, people complain every year at this time but it always turns out great. I'm still reckoning on M83, Santigold and a few others.

Yes, I just don't get the - commercially successful=crap thing. He and is 'ilk' are as entitled to play at EP as any of the others. I've never heard him why should the Electric Picnic be cleansed of him?

good line up, but i was really hoping to see bon iver. I wonder if they'll announce him later?

  • Registered Users Posts: 233 ✭✭O'Doodle

No Two Door Cinema Club? Obviously playing the Phoenix Park then...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,416 ✭✭✭Jimmy Iovine

Brilliant to see the Roots up there. If another one or two acts came along that I like then I'd definitely consider going.

  • Registered Users Posts: 158 ✭✭icarus86

Was really hoping for At the Drive in to be announced for this, still a decent enough lineup though considering there will be loads more announced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,075 ✭✭✭Denalihighway

Ed Sheeran...dodgy in fairness. very dodgy. some good stuff though.

Don't I remember they put on James Blunt a few years back? So there is precedence for this behaviour your honour.

    Scum alert.

Won't be going this year due to oxygen not being on.

can't see any scum spending €230 to see Sigur Ros or The Cure.

they'll be spending their money on Swedish House Mafia/Snoop Dogg and Snow Patrol/Florence in the Phoenix Park probably, maybe some going to Life Festival at the end of May too depending on the lineup...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,933 ✭✭✭H8GHOTI

EP doing their best to calm fears of a bad crowd turning up:
That type of audience will not be into a line up like ours. There will be plenty of events to keep them busy over the summer months.

Why would you spend your hard earned money to attend a festival if you have no interest in seeing any of the acts.

Do "that type of audience" care about the line-up?

Maybe they will go to other events over the summer but there's bound to be some that will want to spend a weekend camping in a field in Ireland just drinking & causing trouble.
There's already a small element of that at EP anyway. I think it could be a small bit worse this year.
But I don't think it will be totally overrun with scum. If the same crowd that has gone the last few years go again then the majority of people will be sound.
Problem is that even if only a couple of hundred extra scumbags turn up it could have an effect.
But overall I think it'll be ok.

Truth is nobody knows for sure & no matter what they say, people will probably be thinking about & talking about this issue until September.

it looks like a good start to me.
1.I already have three must-see names (Cure, Sigur Ros, Orbital). . .
    2. . . and a few more that I haven't seen and would like to (Hot Chip, the Roots, the XX + Glen Hansard, Bell X1, yeah, I know, it's just that I ahve recently moved to Ireland. . .)
3.and if there will be more to be announced, it will probably worth the money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,420 ✭✭✭electrobanana

Scum this scum that its getting annoying the only scum i saw last year were the ones that jumped the fences and stayed in the campsites the whole time.

so if EP sort that out there's not much else you can do if someone pays for their tickets no matter who the are.

just get on with it and enjoy yourselves and if your camped beside any dodgy characters just move your tent its not that hard.

The Cure are the only band id really love to see on this years lineup. Would like to see Azealia Banks too but overall I couldn't justify paying €200+ to see two acts. Was hoping At The Drive In/Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes/Radiohead/Death From Above 1979 would be playing it.

There is loads, loads more to be announced as yet, its not one big splurge like the Bestival announcement, the second and third announcements will be more interesting again. Im fairly happy about the Cure and Sigur Ros who I havent seen before. I missed Sigur Ros at the 2008 one as I was on dodgy pills Friday night and was sitting hiding under my sleeping bag in the tent.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Radiohead haven't announced the rest of their euro tour. Ed Sharpe aren't on tour/Played 2 seperate gigs at the festival last year/Aren't Death from Above playing forbidden fruit?

I'm hopeful if they aren't at EP we'll get a Malahide Castle or Marlay Park gig from them anyway.
