they lost by 26 points. and i dont speak french.

Ah, I think you're just a bit cranky being up so early on a Saturday.

Let's put it another way, do you think Lievremont will be happy with that?

You must be living on another planet if you thought Japan were thumped. If they wanted to they could have kept the score down to around 35 points but they continued to go for it.

ITV1 is showing the vast majority of games, also on Setanta.

All the games are on ITV and live on their website. Use something like Expat Shield to get a UK ip address and you're laughing.

no he wont be happy ,because france are a good team. a sign of how good france are that they would be dissappointed with a plus 26 win.

if i lost by 26 points i would consider it a thumping. japan shot their load in the first 60 and were punch drunk in the end.

the romantics are disappointed that they didnt finish closer.

    they lost by 26 points.

....and South Africa won the last world cup. Doesn't mean they're the best in the world.

Scoreline flatters France, and you're disregarding the performance of the Japanese. There's a reason the man of the match wasn't on the French side.

I sincerely hope the Japanese take the positives from this, and work on the negatives. They could be a lot of trouble come 2019 when they host it. Should create a buzz with a population that's beginning to embrace the sport.

From a french supporter: well done and thanks Japan, that's what RWC is all about

That was a very poor display by France and the score does not reflect the match ... at all !!!
We always knew Japan would be upbeat to play us in such a big event but as usual France is starting slowly like in every RWC even though this year we didn't screw up our prep matches (quelle surprise).
Being a french supporter is not all about wearing a blue shirt and shouting "allez les bleus" it's also about having spare peacemakers and a defibrilator because they (les bleus) always play with some sort of "fuzzy logic" inside them

Anyway the result is there and now let's focus on the next match wich will be intense too because other teams will follow the Japan's path when it comes to playing France !

To conclude as long as France qualifies for the KO stages, there's nothing to be drawn from France's (under)performances at the pool stages, it's business as usual :( no reason to feel blue ;)

    Again well done Japan

France shouldn't have let a second tier team like Japan push them that close at any point... they started off great but then let Japan back in it...

If Japan were good enough to put up a fight against France then think what a team like New Zealand could have done to them....

if Japan managed to score 21 against them there's weaknesses in the team... yeah they scored a good bit when Japan finally rolled over but a team of France's quality would be expected to be able to comfortably run tries in throughout the game and at no point feel a huge amount of pressure from a team like Japan...

course the romantics would like a closer finish.. Japan fought throughout the game and pushed France to 4 points at one stage and could easily have taken the lead at one point... it didn't happen and France might have got a few tries to run up the score but it was far from convincing...

The French would have wanted to play well for 80 minutes in a game like this - not a 10 minute performance at the very start and end of the game... if they do that against a better team their going to be ran of the field...

that's what France will be taking from this game and not a "26 point victory"

if you genuinely think that France think this was a good display and an "easy win" or whatever then your just deluding yourself

Bit more to it than that. Its not just about the score, theres a small matter of how Japan dominated them for a large chunk of the second half. How they panicked and fell apart when a minnow team put them under pressure.

They have NZ to face in that group and more than likely England in the quarters. 3 tries in the last 10 minutes just shows that a good team can score easy against lesser opposition when they are tired. Its the rest of the match that the proper rugby was played and where they will look when reviewing the game.

If anyone thinks the US can't do that tomorrow...

Also, hamdsomecake, did you actually watch the game or just see the final score?

    You're in trolling territory now.

France should have been out of sight by half-time, Japan were always going to fade because they're not as used to playing at this sort of level as France. In no way was this a thumping or a good result for France.

    Good luck.

If the USA do that against us they'll beat us I'm afraid... I can't see us being able to go and score some flashy tries in the last 10 minutes like France and Scotland manage to do today to get out of trouble...

really worried about the USA seeing these results and just deciding to give it a serious lash...

wher in any of my posts do i say any of those things chief?

a 26 point loss regardless of performance is a beating. france were ****e.japan were spirited.

they lost by more then 3 converted tries- a humping.they won the pacific cup .they are not a bad side.not the minnows they are made out to be

Wow, rooting for the underdog is certainly not something handsomecake likes to do. Starting to understand now why you support New Zealand.

thumping implies that they were in complete control for the entire game to me...

they weren't - they were being pressed and pressured for the entire game until the Japanese tired out and then the French ran in a few late tries - that's not thumping a team.... that's getting some late tries when the other team isn't fit to play any more...

a thumping would mean they could score tries like that all game and not be under pressure....

the final score isn't always a representation of how a match went regardless of whether it was a 26 point victory...

France were far from convincing today, they should never have been in a position where Japan could have won... they got lucky at the end as the Japanese fitness levels let them down... simple as that... far from a thumping in my book but I'm sure we both of different definitions of what a thumping is.. and I'm leaving it at that

Skrela possibly out for the rest of the RWC (shoulder fracture), Wisniewski or Doussain to be called to replace him :o
For those who read french: http://coupe-du-monde.tf1.fr/rugby/actu-coupe-du-monde/bleus-mondial-termine-pour-skrela-6683408.html

Has to be Wisniewski to replace him, quality player.

Fumiaki Tanaka (Japan's Scrum Half) is some player. It's rare that you'd find a pass so quick and accurate in the world's best leagues, never mind in Japan's Top League. His game management was fantastic (Although he did fade a little towards the end of his shift) and the agility and cunningness that he and his colleague James Arlidge instilled in Japan's back line was unbelievable. His enthusiasm to play a fast and flowing game is something special, especially when there are a worrying amount of Tomas O'Leary/Jimmy Cowan style scrum halves currently playing in the Northern Hemisphere. I'm really hoping a decent European club might give him a shot after the world cup. Well done Japan and well done Fumiaki! :D

Don't think losing Skrela is a bad thing for France.

Imagine it will be Wisniewski who gets the call ahead of Doussain, because he was called into the 6N squad before as a back up, before losing out to injury. Doussain's versatility could see him in though.

Nice display by the Japanese. Great work from James Arlidge (of the Tokyo Arlidges :D) for the tries!
