I ll be doing a deck soon and cant decide between timber or pvc. I know the pvc stuff is much more expensive but was thinking of the money and time i would spend washing and treating a timber deck,

Has anyone used the pvc stuff, how would you rate it,,

timber decking isnt suitable to the Irish climate.. it will need constant cleaning, staining and will rot in no time at all.. 5-7 years and youll be replacing boards..

If you can afford it go for the PVC

Does the pvc come in different shades like you could get if it was stained?

yeah it comes in a few different colours, the hand rails dont look great, I was thinking of doing the deck in pvc and the handrails and posts in timber,

this company was in at the fair the other day, mbk decking but they dont supply in Ireland

What about not putting in the handrails, a deck that falls away to the garden looks more contemporary.
    or
if you did want seperation from the garden you could make a brick or breeze block wall or turn the wall into raised flower/shrub beds that would contain the deck, give you cover and provide you with a bit extra seating if you could sit on the wall :)

Tosh, they have been using Timber Decking in climates like Canada for donkeys years. Rot? If the timber is treated properly in the first place, infrequent maintenance is required with no issues.

Ive timber decking down the back for 8 years + and its perfect.

lucky you have seen many decking been ripped out due to rot, treated wood only extends life does nt make it last forever, location of decking and maintenance is the main factors in durability, plus timber used,
never a fan of timber decking becomes very slippy, but id imagine the plastic stuff has to be washed as much to prevent this too
