If you have an open fire in your house use a chimney balloon when it's not in use to stop unnecessary draughts.

    **SAVE ELECTRICITY**
    Congratulations and Celebrations,
We have use of something very good.
    Lots of lovely illuminations,
From a fire to a cooker hood.

But try not to waste that energy,
There are things that you should do.
    Like insulation of your loft,
    And lagging of pipes too!
So close those doors; switch off those lights,
    Conserve that energy.
Turn down your heat; turn off your gas,
    Save electricity!

    Our fossil fuels are precious,
They may not last for long.
If we do not conserve them,
One day they’ll all be gone. :)

Save energy by not ironing your shirts. Your workplace will eventually get tired of telling you to 'smarten yourself up'....well, they did with me anyway!

How many students does it take to change a lightbulb?

None. They are all clever enough to use energy saving bulbs that very rarely need changing :D

If thuring down the thermostat by 1 degree saves 10% off your heating bill, turn it down by 10 degrees and save 100%, simples

Don't overload your dryer. Overloaded dryers use more energy, cause clothes to wrinkle so they may need to be ironed, and wears out clothes more quickly.

    Hi everyone,

Today we're officially launching a new App designed to help cut your energy costs. The Appliance Calculator, a popular resource on our website, has been given a smart makeover and has made the transition to smartphone.

This handy tool will estimate the cost of running an appliance by using one of these easy to use features:
    • Review all your home appliances for a complete breakdown of your energy bills
    • Search for an individual appliance
    • Check out the big electricity users in your home at a glance
Best of all, the App is free to download (so no costs to calculate there) from the iTunes Store and Android Market (just search 'Appliance Calculator'). You can also scan in the appropriate QR code here.

To celebrate this launch, we're giving away two Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Android Phones.

To be in with a chance to win one, simply post a comment below. If you draw a blank and can't think of anything, why not post an energy tip to benefit your fellow boardsies, or an energy efficiency joke to keep them amused (keep 'em clean though...). :)

Winners will be drawn at random, in accordance with our competition T&Cs, and the competition closes at midnight on Sunday next (18th Sept).

    Best of luck,

    David.

My tip would be use only energy bulbs! My electric prices have dropped big time since I started using them!
