Don't put on the washing machine or dishwasher unless they are full!
Used to live with someone who used to put on 2 socks for a lengthy wash.

Don't spend all day scratching your arse in the shower just becuase its too warm and wonderful to leave.

Invest in a new immersion switch for hot water, they only cost €15 and have a timed switch for 15, 30, 45min and 1 hr options so you never forget to turn off the immersion again

Use movement sensors so light will switch off when you leave a room (or bathroom) this should be used more in offices as well and get more solar powered appliances, yes even in Ireland :-)

    close the doors

Work out what you want from the refrigerator before you open the door. Don't just stand there with the door open, pondering.

(Yes, daughters, this is directed at you.)

Replace 50w hallogen ceiling lights with 3w L.E.Ds, uses a fraction of the energy, they don't get dangerously hot, they're good n' bright and getting cheaper to buy.

Boil cooking water in the kettle before switching on the hob

put the lid on the pot when cooking, spuds cook faster and you use let power

switch off the hob a couple mins before taking the pot off, food will continue to cook.

...last one, don't cook spuds whole, cut them into quaters and then cook, they cook way faster

LED's are the way to go, I use them all over the house. Also I found lowering the heating right down and closing the rads half way did cut my heating costs for last year.
