Hey Limerick boardsies I'm looking for some recommendations on wedding bands and photographers in the Limerick area.

Mod's, I know there is a wedding forum but I'm really looking for a local input. I hope you can leave the thread here, thanks :)

We were looking at Angles Photography http://www.angles-studio.ie/galleries.html and really liked the style of photo's they do. Do you know of any similar photographers around. We don't really want someone who is going to be getting us to stand another half an inch to the left but someone who has a more relaxed style and will help us make the day fun.

As for bands we are looking for more of a rock band than the traditional wedding band. I've seen Traffic play at a wedding and was looking for some similar bands around.

I've seen Ken Coleman's work and would recommend him. did a good job at a function I was involved with. he's usually doing a lot of the photography for music gigs so would have a good idea of most of the limerick based bands too. I'd be able to get you his number if you'd like.

Cormac Byrne is a good photgrapher based in Dooradoyle

And Free Beer are a good band for weddings

We used Kevin Wallace, he is no nonsense, no faffing and he did exactly what we wanted. I hate having photos taken, find the whole process a pain but he made it simple and straightforward.

    Richard

He did some Amazing work on a wedding in Italy a few years back. He knows his way around Photoshop and picture editing unlike some other, old school lads, who simply just print the photos.

Sean Curtin is another good shout for photographer

We used John O'Brien, http://www.jobrienphotography.com/ He was very good and kept us really relaxed all day. He's prices aren't too bad either.

If you love 80's music - these guys put on an amazing show. From Dublin - but travel possible: "DeLorean".

And these guys play 80's, 90's, 00's and recent stuff too. They gig nationally.

Cormac Byrne or John O'Brien for the snaps, both top quality.

    btw
Got to say I'm not crazy about the Photoshopping of wedding photos, just a personal thing, up to yourself an' all that, but my sisters kid had her confirmation pics shopped....dimples, blemishes removed, eyes sparkling like jewels, etc., etc. pardon the awful pun, but you get the picture, anyway just my two cents.

Anything from removing grafitti from a wall(specific street in Italy) to removing old people eating sandwiches in a public park right through to removing that BIG SPOT the bride got the morning of her wedding. Lighting effects can be good as well, regular software can do that but photoshop is better. Like making the rings the only colour in the picture kind of thing.

Hate that cheesy thing of highlighting the rings!

    Sean Curtin (Above)

    Lette Moloney http://moloneyphoto.com/

    Or Darren Kirwan http://www.dkphotography.ie/

Best wedding band for me would be Drive. They played my own wedding a few years ago and I have seen them at a few weddings since. They play all the oldie stuff for the Mammy's and Grannies and they play all the new/modern stuff for the young 'uns like meself. They will even learn a song for your 1st dance too ;-)
PM me for their number if interested.

With MI there - Theo can be a bit 'overly anal' in terms of "Two inces here" kinda thing. No offence to her. (Just giving a photographers view on things) I don't do weddings otherwise I'd have gave you my info, but those would be the three best wedding 'togs in the business in Limerick imo.

Check out Hermitage Green As far as i know they are taking bookings for weddings. You can drop them a mail on Facebook. They play a lot of modern stuff really mixed with some trad/folk and 90s dance!

    Even Brian Blessed recommends them

Also I think they have a number of DJ's for when they finish playing the live set as an option...

They will be in Nancy's this Wednesday 14th

Niall Egleston for the photography. http://www.eglestonphotography.com/ He's NOT as fussy as he's made out to be and his pictures are brilliant. He's no more expensive than any of the others either.

One I definitely WOULDN'T recommend is Rose Petal Baker. She did wedding photos for 2 of my friends (as in 2 different weddings) and both of them were awful. Both the brides ended up crying over them and the grooms weren't too happy either.

Traffic are a very good band. Also I would recommend Shantytown - you can check them out in Nancy Blakes every second Thursday night.

    Hey OP

We had the guests do our wedding last year and couldn't recommend them higher. We had a mix of city and country, young and old and the floor was never empty. They actually got 2 weddings from ours. I'd recommend seeing them in Nancy's. Price was fairly good as well. PM be if you want any more info.

Don't go with Rose Baker as a photographer what ever you do! :P

Plan B I find are a brilliant band! Or Trees fall down (however they charge €1200 for a wedding)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭djman

Forget the band get a DJ :D

Seriously having played after every band in Limerick numerous times and if it's rock you want go see Escapade... (Plan B with the extra members)

If you are not looking for the rock element then go see any of the others mentioned above. All great in their own right just not to everyone's taste..

If you want to go outside Limerick and pay that little extra try KIF from Galway

So many bands out there that all cater to different tastes so definitely go see them, esp at a wedding though because they can be totally different in a pub setting, like the Guests mentioned above

Escapade are an excellent wedding band IMO

The Mad hatters are quite good too

We went with Atomic Chicken as a band and DJ, Morning Star Photography. Atomic Chicken were excellent to deal with and actually returned calls and emails which the others didn't do. Morning Star is brilliant and they give you the CD of images in printable quality, most of the others I looked at in Limerick would not do this, or else charge so much you wouldn't get it - plus they were great to deal with on the day, and had the CD ready when we got back from honeymoon. Plus pricewise I think you'll find them both ultra competitive.

no offence intended towards the photographer but..... many of the "old school" photographers get the image right when taking it and do not need photoshop to correct errors or enhance the image.

Photography is about capturing an image - I work full-time as a photojournalist and photoshop is not allowed (except basic adjustments, cropping etc) - in recent years wedding photographers have been "adjusting" images so they produce what the client see's as a great set of pics - when infact they are producing a set of images which display a false record of the event.

like I have said earlier - if the photographers today took the time to get the exposure and composition correct first time there would be little need for photoshop...and it should only be used as a last resort - unlike most photographers today who are reliant on it - every image they take is post processed.
