I see the Library's roof (Balbriggan) has been damaged. the roads around it are blocked off now.
Also saw some of the signs in Millfield's car park were damaged ? from the wind.
Couldn't even cycle in myself this morning due to the gusts.

You need a bit more ballast Rob;) (I actually found it easier cycling today than in than some of the winds we had back in February)

    Presumably you're referring to Balbriggan?

    Ballast not a problem wink.gif

Made it to the bottom of the street but was nearly blown over twice so went back for the car.

Opened the (vellux) window in my office and the wind was so strong it actually lifted the carpet !!!

Take it easy on the way home..

Yeah Balbriggan alright. We'll be doing a garden/roof inspection tomorrow when the winds die down a bit to double check for slates.

As a tip for anybody if your slates come down get out asap to pick them up and bring them inside your house until you can get a roofer to repair them for you. If you have to buy them to replace them they are extremely expensive.

Temporary emergency closure of Hampton Street Balbriggan due to high winds

Due to the high winds this afternoon a spire on the roof of Balbriggan library was damaged and has become unsafe. On the advice of the emergency services, Fingal County Council has ordered the emergency closure of Hampton Street in the vicinity of St Georges Square, Balbriggan to pedestrian and vehicular traffic until such time as it is possible to make the location safe.

The diversion for vehicular traffic is as follows:
Divert from Market Green West, on to Dublin Street (north).

Divert onto Quay Street to Drogheda Street.

Local diversion signage will be in place until the closure is lifted and while we are hoping to carry out the necessary works tomorrow this is dependent on the weather and the availability of the necessary specialist equipment.

We would apologise to all road users and businesses in the area for the inconvenience caused.

    Regards

    Paul Smyth
