    It's not too surprising really, buying a house in Ireland is idiotic even at current "reduced" rates, houses are still way ovepriced here

    As per the previous thread on a similar topic ... it's partly to do with the way rules for Rent Allowance work: some unemployed people have to go on the housing list even if they don't really want a council house.

    Just an fyi from a local councillor.
    There are currently circa 400 RAS properties in the galway city council area.
