Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking for help in choosing a turbo. I live in an apt where sound proofing is woeful so looking for the quietest one. Budget incl delivery is 175 to €200. I used one (two fans ether side of a roller) years ago - and it was loud. I presume they are quieter now?

    Tacx Satori.

Thanks Lumen. I think bike24 has the best price (156 plus 15.95 postage). Good price.

You should probably get a dedicated turbo-trainer tyre also

spare wheel/cassette would also be good, can't go outside on trainer tyre

    degreasing helps slippage

I have the Tacx Satori, it is still loud enough although supposed to be one of the quietest. I find running it on a rug or old blanket if you are on a hard floor makes a huge difference, it also soaks the sweat.

I figured the noise claims would be quite subjective. I plan to use a rubber matting (similar to whats put on apt floors by builders) underneath. I may even try the balcony to see if it helps reduce sweating and exersing in the open air is so much better! ;-)

As far as I know the fluid ones are the quietest turbos. They will be higher in price so might not be in your budget. I need to get a new one myself

I bought one of these Elite Fluid Turbos's last year:

Last years model was a lot cheaper ( maybe i got it in the sale, can't rembember). It's a good trainer, very quiet compared to fan models. The supplied QR skewer has to be used tho, otherwise the wheel doesn't sit on the centre of the roller.

Those fluid ones sound (excuse the pun) good-but pricy.
It would be great if manufacturers published a sound figure (Db or similar) for comparison. Equally, if only you could try before you buy!
