    Hi Guys

I have been developing a cheap EPOS System which I have sold to several customers. So far all my sales have been by word of mouth.

I am now thinking about setting up a website to get a bigger market, but what I am wondering is, is there a bigger market out there.

What my system does is turn a normal PC into a Electronic Cash Register. I don't really get involved in the hardware side but I do recemmend the correct hardware.

So I am wondering before I set up a website, is there a market for reliable cheap EPOS?

Thanks in advance for your help.

There is a lot of competition but I'd say its all pretty crap.
What people want as well as features and reliability is something that looks nice and doesn't look like it belongs on a 1980's IBM machine.

Integration is the key. There is a big gap in the market between EPOS and shopping carts. People who have an e-commerce business and a physical store have a right nightmare syncing inventory.

I work with lots of till companies. If you're going to sell to anyone, you're going to have to do the whole package, hardware, software and support, if it's going to be a point of sale system. Companies like CBE, Leaders, Digi, Retail Solutions, and some pharmacy specific ones I've integrated with all develop (or licence) software, provide the hardware, set up, and sell maintenance contracts.

Is there any particular sector that you're targeting?

Sorrty let me clarify a little when I say EPOS I mean the whole thing from booking the stock in to selling the stock at any point the retailer would be able to call the product up and see exactly what is in the store.

The system has full stock control/ Customer and Supplier.

At the moment my target market would be small 1-2 till sites who wouldnt have the money to buy a whole system from any of the main suppliers at the moment.

As it stands a whole package system can be very expensive when the mark up is added. I provide the software and point the customer in the right direction to get cheap hardware since I can work with there existing PC then they only need to purchase Printer/Scanner/Cash drawer

Thanks for your answers so far

Stock control is only part of what i wanted in my EPOS system, I also wanted good, accurate reports that were easy to generate and read depending on what Key Performance Indicators I was looking for. Does your system incorporate this?

Your competition in this country is in my opinion very expensive. I had some quotes and we were talking minimum 2-5k for a very basic system. Personally I don't need a rep to hold my hand or have the desire to rent hardware at inflated prices when you can buy the stuff cheaply.
Then you have the likes of Microsoft Dynamics. This system looks pretty good but its not cheap and when you add in the integration costs with eCommerce through systems such as Atandra T-HUB its even more expensive. I don't think epos software should require a 3rd party app to talk to a website database.
Then you have all the cheap, open source solutions. As I mentioned earlier, I tried many of them but they were so ugly and basic they were not for me.

If someone came along with a piece of software that was under €500 that had a pretty, clear and intuitive interface, offered stock control, customer/supplier database, reports and most importantly integration with other apps/website they'd have mine and a countless amount of other businesses like mine worldwide signing up. I like the idea of buying just the software and having the option to buy the hardware either through you or elsewhere.

Our EPOS/Back office company started out very similar to what you are looking to do. We specialised in Fishing & Hardware companies customing there accounts to do the reporting as they needed. All done by word of mouth. No mainstream advertising. And that was over 20 years ago now.

If you can price it accourdingly & it is expandable with office integration(alot more accountants are now looking for excel spreadsheets instead of manual printed reports) Then I think you could do very well.

It's amazing the amount of new business in the last 2 years that has come through google searches.

Competiton is tight & advertsing is expensive but Good Luck with the venture & deffo get a website up & running.

We're currently testing a system from AirPOS
    http://www.airpos.co.uk/

Seems to fulfill our needs without having to spend scarce cash on 'training', 'installation' or 'maintenance' you get offered from the more established vendors.

It has good browser based back office support which can be useful for monitoring things when you are off site.

    Hi Doldol

I run my restaurant on a cloud based software from www.erply.com. It's easy to configure and it's a great little program.

    Cheers Olivet
