Great news !!!!!!! Hope they add drop in/out co-op this time

How bad is the backtracking in this game? I like the idea of no fast travel but i have been hearing that its probably the games biggest flaw. Apparently you have to backtrack alot and your character has a stamina bar and he/she gets exhausted after a while, plus mobs respawn and you have to plow through them again.

I really wanna try this game as Diablo 3 is kinda losing its charm, fast, and its the only game im playing at the moment.

In hindsight the back tracking wasn't at all that bad and led to some gold moments......... that said in new game plus with powers to the max and skipping side quests I finished the game in 5 or 6 hours  but would I play the sequel if it was exactly the same? Hells yes I would!!!!!

You do have to back track a hell of a lot if doing side quests etc but no way would it put me off this gem of a game

I'll give an example of what fun you can have backtracking:

There's NO story spoilers here, just a particular monster is mentioned, but I'll spoiler it anyway to be safe.
I come across a group of bandits who attack me, near Gran Soren. They're not too strong, I can deal with them fairly easily, just there's a good few of them and they're spread out.

Out of absolutely nowhere, a feckin' massive Griffin lands right smack in the middle of everyone, me and bandits alike go flying, and the Griffin starts attack anything that moved. Eventually all the bandits die and I take on the Griffin, which takes me a good 10 minutes and a few near-misses to kill.

    So much fun.

Anyway I bought a 2nd hand PS3 there after my YLOD, will have to start a new game though. Played as a Strider before, only half finished the game though so might stick with it and play as something else in a NG+.

Never had that happen me but I wish It would

Went and bought this today and i kinda regret it. Maybe i have spoiled myself playing games on high end PCs these days but the low FPS in this game is frustrating, specially when the game is saving which it does alot. The graphics quality of games doesnt annoy me but i hate my games to have low FPS. The camera being to close to your character when your weapons are sheathed is another annoyance.

Then there is like a darkish circle on the outline of the whole screen that is really off-putting. Then we have black borders! Last time i had black borders in my game was back in the PSX era with all PAL games having them because of difficulty converting from NTSC to PAL, or something.

Other than that it seems like a really fun game! Hah. Ill give it another shot later tonight.

Graphically it certainly isn't great. Try to get beyond that though because it's seriously so much fun. I know what you mean though, probably 75% of my gaming is done on a high end PC and it just blows a console out of the water.

Anyway I decided to buy the DLC quests, heard they aren't very good but oh well. Cost the princely sum of €6 so won't kill me.

They are all find a stone quests there are 100 to collect, they release 1 pack a week for 10 weeks (xbox/ps3) seemingly when you get them all you get the best armor in the game ...... my pawn came back wearing it soon after launch after being hired so I assume it's on disc and folks have hacked it

Re: the looks, I agree but I can over look them as I play only on consoles, but textures on grass, buildings etc etc are where the current gen consoles are really starting to show their age, I know from watching online videos of pc versions of games I've played on the xbox what I'm missing in terms of looks and it's shocking :o

Got back to it again and im starting to overlook its flaws. Got as far as the Hydra boss today before i turned it off. One thing that surprised me is the difficulty. I made my first char a fighter and i seem to take alot of damage, thought i would be abit more tanky. How do other classes work to avoid damage? Do they get dodge moves and rolls, since so far all the Fighter gets is blocking.

I'm playing as a Sorceror at the moment, and you pretty much just keep away from enemies and let the pawns do their thing (I have two fighter pawns and another mage). It can be tough as you get one-shotted a lot, but it's not as frustrating as it could be. You just have to remember to save often, especially when you think you're about to come up against something big. Sometimes you just have to retry what you did before you died as you were just unlucky, sometimes you've to adjust your strategy and sometimes you're totally outclassed and need to run away.

I played a fighter on my first run and am sorry I stuck with it , went with strider on the second run and much preferred it.

I appear to have reached the point where I fight the eponymous dragon. Have heard the fight is awesome. Not sure my body is ready.

I love this game, its been weeks and im still playing every hour I can. Ive made an awesome pawn that people like, im getting way shards and ferrystones as gifts.
Ive also gotten all the DLC the main missions are lame but it adds more quests and give you amazing start out gear.
I have no problem with this game other than the single save file but thats been moaned about so much i hope capcom do an update or something with more save files.

Are you sure people are hiring the pawn? The server simulates this too so you will get gifts nearly every time you sleep at the inn. If they have comments and rating then a real person hired them ;)

Damn, that didnt last long. Done with this game just after leaving Gran Soren. Everything about the game is fine, but the framerate is terrible and i cant take it anymore. Hate to say it but this game would have been glorious on the PC.

You only get a minimal amount of RC though I think when the server simulates your pawn being hired.

    So just
killed the dragon. Was a fun fight but I didn't think it was hard enough tbh.
    BUT!
The game isn't over! I was expecting NG+ or something, now I'm collecting Wakestones from the Everfall.

    Stop by and visit
    the UR-Dragon
while you're there in everfall, chamber of lament I think it was as luck would have it she drops the exact amount of wakestones you need , and make sure you are playing with settings set to online ;)

Tell her Calex sends his regards

    /Wipes blood from gauntlets :D

I just got there myself, although he just flew away and I realised I need to change from Mystic Knight if I want to do better and maybe buy two high price pawns. So I need to find a vocation trainer in this long night thing and also somewhere to put my loot, my pawns and I are all at very heavy.

Sweet, ive bought everything for this game so far. Even though the missions are just go find the spot, but some of the armor is amazing for early play and you can save a bit of in game gold so you can get the 10 million credits achievement :)

Ah you see this was were I slipped up too, I thought I had to kill her there and then, not so, in fact I'd say it's not possible especially if playing online you should barely have made a dent in her before she flys off, plus she will only come back if you leave and re-enter.

You are free to go to the inn and reskill and come back , when I did it it took 3 hours and over 25 encounters, they way it works is her health is based on the number of people fighting her in their individual game at that time, they all work to taking her down from what I understand. That is why it's easier to kill her by setting the game to be offline.

One of the biggest tips I could offer is make sure you have a bow , thats why it took me so long I went in without one, and after a point the pawns are totally useless so save the rift shards

That was awesome, it took a long time to kill it and I didnt get the killing blow :( but now im on NG+ i decided im going to be a 137 height female sorcerer with a focus on fire and ice. I love this game so damn much I could just start over and over again, I even love the kill whatever of whatevers missions and the escort ones too.

I can not wait for real DLC.

Edit: If your a small person you get less inventory space :(

Just finished the game there. Really enjoyed it. Will give it a while before playing again though probably.

    Just beat the
    'final'
    boss again...and
am collecting the stones for the real ending!

First playthrough took about 50 hours... NG+ (Mystic Knight lvl 55 + skipping side quests) has taken me about 5 hours
    to kill the dragon!

    I love this game!!! :D

Why did it only score 78 (PS3) on Metacritic?! http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/dragons-dogma/critic-reviews

It stands tall beside the great RPGs of this generation... Demon's / Dark Souls, Skyrim etc.

I'm ready for playthrough number 3 now!!!

Don't think I posted this but I was fighting an ogre/troll on a cliffside and the dumb ****er went to try and grab one of my pawns but missed and fell off the edge :D

They have a thing for the ladies , so I'd be 100% sure the pawn he went for was female :D

Mine had a tendency to be wildly passive and wildly aggressive at random times. Ogres were usually shown the apocalypse by her :D
