I've taken this game out of the backlog and put it in the PS3. It is just downloading a few patches right now. Can anyone fill me in on how the pawn system works?

    Well, from what I remember:

You can create a main pawn. Equip it as you like, make it look how you like, give it a class, pick skills for it, etc etc. You can also hire pawns that other people have made, to a maximum party size of 4. It's obviously a good idea to have a range of classes in your party. Other people can also hire your pawn too and if they do you get some benefits for your troubles, I think you get paid in the currency that's used in the renting of pawns. Once you hire a pawn it'll stay in your party until you dismiss it. What I used to do was hire two pawns who were a couple of levels higher than me and keep them until I was a couple of levels higher than them, then dismiss and hire higher level pawns.

It's also an idea to check out what experience any pawns you're going to rent have. If they've a good load of experience with killing different enemies, they shout out hints on how to kill them. The same goes for completing quests with them.

If I can afford it, I usually try and get at least one of the pawns who are many levels above me. They really help in fights where you're totally out-classed (although, if you're like me, you get attached to them and don't like having to get rid of them when you level past them :( ).

I ordered Dragon's Dogma, reading some of the most recent posts it sounds like being online/interacting with others online is a big part of the game :(

In general, I can't get my 360 online, and I only searched this thread with the intent of asking if any of the DLC stuff is worth buying or not. I went to xbox.com and there is a crazy amount of stuff there. I'll be somewhere I can get my 360 online later tonight and tomorrow, so if there is something that is worth downloading, I'll have to do it then. As for any other benefits to being online, well I'll have to do without it.

I was under the impression the content wasn't available separately and you needed to buy the disc in order to access it. It's similar to the Dark Athena re-release of Chronicles of Riddick in that respect, apart from the fact that DD is only out a year. :o

It isn't going to be released as DLC. You'll have to buy DD Dark Arisen the game, and it'll come with both the old and new content. Was in Gamestop yesterday buying playstation points and decided to ask how much it was going to be. It'll be 30. Apparently, whatever way the game is coded, adding content as DLC was not possible, so they are doing a budget release with the extra content. Your saves carry over.

they didn't add new trophies / achievements ?

not that I need them to play this but would have been nice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,640 ✭✭✭Pushtrak

It musn't have. It'd already be out in the US, and Trueachievements haven't added anything above the original 1000.

Is this anything like Dark Souls?

Not really, I would say it's closer to skyrim in that it's open world (not quite as big but still big) and not as much a dungeon crawler as Dark Souls.

Pity they didn't put any new trophies in,so basically this new content is all just one big massive underground dungeon ya?

I'm guessing some people here will be starting up a game in this new now that Dark Arisen is out. Might be a good idea to post our gamertags or PSN IDs so we can get use of each others pawns for free.

I'm playing on the 360, tag is same as here. My pawn is a level 58 warrior.

    Slay 29 oxen
    collect 20 seeker tokens
    collect 50 war bungles

Running back and forth between the inn in gran soren and the place that makes fakes for you,I got there in the end though :pac:.

In the game, you can use port crystals to have instant travel to a spot. You can use up to 10 of them. At that point, you have to move one of the ones you previously used. Oh, there is a way to get them much cheaper in the game, that's why I bought 10 of them. They're expensive generally. Well, they're still steep even with the reduction, but worth it.

I just loaded up my game right now. Here's a description of where you can find some, though some will only be helpful depending on your knowledge of the map, where you've explored. I'll try and explain the locations as precisely and easily to overcome that though.
Ok, first, you know the area around the entrance to Witchwood? A bit to the West you see on the map "Eradication Site" and above it is what looks to be a path and a pointer for Nightcall Crevasse. It's in the foresty area a bit to the North and West of that.

Have you been up by the Healing Spring/Blighted Manse Rear Entrance? To get there, you have to go North of Gran Soren, cross the bridge, go past the Windbluff Tower, keep going and it's the most North Easterly part of the map. You should find one reliably at the Blighted Manse Rear Entrance. Handy place to leave a port crystal as there are some notice board quests that involve bringing people there. Handy to just teleport and be done.

I know of two others, but they're unreliable. There is one that is near the first on my list. Look to the Eradication Site and I've had one show up during the day a bit west of it. If you look North of its around the area where you can go towards a rest camp.

I've had another show up in the Cursed Wood I think. Again, just like the previous, this one isn't as reliable as the first two.

Edit: Cursed Wood is West of Gran Soren. Just follow the road that goes West, and then when it splits go North rather than South which would take you to the Ancient Quarry.

No prob. I don't think the port crystal thing is really all that much a spoiler, so if you find yourself getting I'd suggest using it at the healing spring rather itself rather than next to the Chimera. You don't want to have an escort mission, fast travel there and have the unlucky fecker get mauled. The handy thing about notice board quests is no timer. You have other quests that people will ask you to do whatever, but they are on a timer. You have to go talk to them, and do whatever before doing X main mission depending on the quest. If you are going for all achievements/trophies, you should look up something on that on a subsequent playthrough.

I found one near the cursed woods and killed it :D,Then I decided to go exploring for a bit and walked up a hill and came arcross a winged creature in the distance,so I said to myself I'll take this fooker on,it was a fecking dragon with its heart underneath it and it had about 10 health bars,I got out there as fast as I could lol.

Then I ran into cyclops killed it and then ran into one of those flying bird things, can't remember there names,He just flew when he took some damage,I love the randomness of this game :D.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,640 ✭✭✭Pushtrak

The flying things are Griffins. There'll be a notice board thing for those guys as well as Cyclops and Ogres. Try have a mage or sorcerer with fire when you want to take them on... Actually, best to have at least one of them as a mainstay of your party as just about every enemy you hear "they hate fire" which I always laughed at. Course it does, who wants to be set on fire?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 80,414 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sephiroth_dude

Griffins thats what they are! they always fly away on me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,640 ✭✭✭Pushtrak

Yep. I had to be up to a high level to be able to kill 'em before they flew away. What level are you at now? I'm at level 108 or 109. What class are you? I went with Strider and then Assassin, so I have a bow. I found using oil arrow and blast arrows helpful there, and generally. If you aren't, I don't know how reliably the AI would use them if given.

A friend of mine said that you can bait a Griffin to land by throwing out bodies on the ground, it will fly down to eat them.

Just started this myself, after the weird opening when I didn't know what the hell was happening I started to get and and I'm loving it now. Have a firends lvl 71 pawn at the moment, I'm only 13 and it's chewing through everything :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,640 ✭✭✭Pushtrak

I haven't had need to do the throwing bodies around as I've been a Strider or Assassin, so I just use the bow to get its attention. The problem is even when it lands, it's quick to leave after taking damage. I haven't used any extra pawns in a while, but have used ones at 91, over 100 and even ones that were maxed out at 200.

I hear, though that if you have pawns who are a lot higher level than you, you get less XP than if you have pawns who are the same level as you. And you get most XP by having fewer pawns or none. I'll not be playing again for a few weeks, but it's good to have me work on XP for myself and my main pawn so people will be more likely to hire her.

I go to a few of the grind spots, set on the double XP item and level up pretty fast, though, obviously, it's been slowing down the last few levels, but not by too much. Good use of port crystals really helps. They cost 10,000 each from Fournival (Gran Soren). I use 10 of them around the map. They really are useful for subsequent playthroughs as the port crystals are in the same spots you left them before, though you only get to use tham at a certain point in the game. It's early in the game anyway, so that isn't an issue.

Edit: You can get Fournival to sell them for 9,000 later in the game.
A ways in to the game you'll get a quest to determine whether he is innocent or guilty. If you get him to be innocent, he sells his stuff for cheaper.

I'm only level 38 I think, warrior class,I have a level 48 sorcerer in my party and my main pawn is 38 too I think and Then I have another warrior in my party and she's 39 I think.I think I'll switch her out and get a strider.

I didn't know you could do that thing with the bodies for the griffin, how do you do that?
