We were told to buy 'Sociology' by Anthony Giddens (6th Edition). I wanna know, is it worth buying this book? I might take up Sociology in 2nd year so is this book worth buying?

    Thanks!

I bought it. Totally useless. Don't buy it.

I took sociology for 3 years, and never used it beyond a module in first year. Use the library, photocopy the relevant bits, done.

    Yep.

Its basically an introductory text. Any books that you will be using in the following years will be much more specialised and in depth than that book.

Just a word of warning, in some 2nd year modules and most 3rd year modules you're not even allowed use Giddens as a reference point. Sometimes you would think using a general text might work well for prefacing but it's blacklisted.
