Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Folks,

A fun challenge/hobby for any motoring enthusiast is to use their car knowledge and diy skills to manage cheap luxury motoring in a reasonably luxurious model on a tight budget.

I can keep the petrol/mileage costs down by using another car for daily commuting, but having looked at dozens of permutation and combinations, one of the main limiting factors, for me, is motor tax.

I know for the purest, true luxury motoring requires more than 2.5 litres, but any good recommendations/advice for cheap, sort of luxurious motoring, in particular under 2.5 litre and € 3,500 ? (Leather is a must, and I fancy Mercedes, BMW, Audi)

Once you go over 2.0 litre, the Motor tax starts to mount up.
And after 2.5 litre the € 1000 (physiological only I know :) ) barrier creeps in.

Motor tax rates by engine size
    (cc) €
    1,901 to 2,000 614
    2,001 to 2,100 784
    2,101 to 2,200 823

    2,201 to 2,300 860
    2,301 to 2,400 895
    2,401 to 2,500 935

    2,501 to 2,600 1,120
    2,601 to 2,700 1,164
    2,701 to 2,800 1,204
    2,801 to 2,900 1,248
    2,901 to 3,000 1,293
    3,001 or more 1,566
