    Hi there,

Has anyone perhaps got some good ideas for a 12 year old girls birthday party. She wants to have a sleep over with 8 of her friends. Budget is tight so will have to be something that is cheap and that we can do at home. Any suggestions would be apprecaited :)

Take them to the local shopping centre or town, make sure there's a penny's, give them 5-10 euro each (depending on how much you can afford) and let them loose. Their parents will likely give them more money. Then when you get home, lots of microwave popcorn, marshmallows, few rented dvds (let your daughter pick obviously) and they'll amuse themselves. Couple of my friends did that for their 12th birthday party. Everyone enjoyed.

Haha, eh no way would I pay for a gaggle of 12 year olds to go shopping. Why not have a pyjama party? Not a sleepover, just a party in the evening (maybe up until ten p.m.?), they arrive in their PJ's, do face masks (can be bought or made!), paint nails, toe nails, dvd and popcorn and a bit of a dance/karaoke if you have a console with the microphones already... and home then at 10pm!

Obviously it depends on the group of girls in question - we were all pretty well behaved and polite kids (even if I say so myself :D) but while you obviously wouldn't take a really rowdy bunch out, but there's no reason why a well behaved group couldn't be escorted around Penneys and Claire's Accessories and brought back for a sleepover. As I said, few of my friends did that for their 12th birthday parties and it went off without a hitch.

No way would I have a group of 9 rowdy ones in my house though! That'd be a bowling/cinema affair. Out of interest, OP, is a sleepover totally out of the question? Wasn't quite sure from your post and when you say budget is tight, how tight is tight? 50 euro?

My lady turned 12 yeasterday, she is out on a trek at the moment with 2 friends and they are staying over, we did 8 kids up to last year and i tell you last year was a nightmare we got no sleep at all. Kids woulndt clean up after themselfs and they all expected a bed each. they years before they were ok but last year was a nightmare.

My ladys picked 3 dvds for tonight and we have the fridge stocked and they can help themselves.

OP, might be no harm to keep an eye on groupon, they had a deal a while back for bowling for 6 was only like 16 euro or something. Could be a way to do a party without it costing the world.

    I actually remember my 12th:)

    I had a sleepover!

We got dvds, sweets, ordered a take away.
    It was brilliant!

I would not bring them shopping or anything like that, I would get them some dvds, popcorn etc and let them all stay over once you know them and like them!!

I certainly wouldn't let a gang of girls loose in a shopping centre when I was responsible for them. Karoke?Dvds and pop corn always go well.

I would just go with the sleepover and keep it contained at home. Rent a few dvds plenty of junk and they will be grand. If you have a camcorder give them that and let them record a few things such as giving each other mini make overs. Buy some cheap nail varnichea and a couple of cheap eyeshadows and lip glosses and a can of hairspray and maybe those wash out hair spray dyes. They will have great fun.

    I'm 15 so here's a few suggestions I'd like.
Have a movie night/evening where you get a few DVDs, popcorn, food etc.
Have a spa like evening where you get some face masks, nail polish, eyeshadow if you allow it, clips and nice hair things and do manicures etc. If you are good at hair/sister/aunt you could ask them to help out with a step by step makeover type thing. For example you could get your hair curled one by one while others did eachothers nails etc although she might rather it just be her and her friends.
Have them over and they could each make their own pizza. You can buy pizza base mix in Traco for around 30c each and prepare in advance an have some toppings for them to do themselves. You could have the movie night with that.
A baking day where they could make something easy like gingerbread men or fairy cakes and decorate.
This might sound babyish but when I was 11 I had a treasure hunt in my garden with clues like 'spring has sprung let's have some fun' for the trampoline. It was fun with prizes at the end but I have quite a big garden so it was easy to do.
Aswell as the movie night you could get games like twister which are fun.
If you have a wii or another console you could have matches/games on that if you have any suitable ones. You could rent some suitable ones that include everyone from xtravision or another movie shop.
    Karaoke would be fun too!
A piñata would be really cool too and you can even make it yourself and fill it up with sweets.
If I think of any more I'll add. Google some suggestions too, you can find cool things.

I think it would be great to do set the place up as a spa and do face/ hair masks, nails, etc. I would have loved that at twelve. Only if your daughter and her friends are into that sort of thing though.

If they are more "tomboyish", you could set up your garden (if you have one!) for a festival, do a bbq, have them stay in tents and sleeping bags, get a firepit (steel bucket) for roasting marshmallows, etc. Although it might be a bit cold for that.

For my 12th birthday (feels like 100 years ago now), I had a sleep over with 3 friends and we got videos (yes that long ago!). My mum thought we were watching something she approved of and headed off to bed. Then my big sister produced Dirty Dancing on video and we watched it in our sleeping bags in the sitting room.
    Best birthday party ever.

It is a while ago now but we got dvds and pizza and all slept in the sitting room.
You do not need to go crazy, a sleep over is enough excitment at that age.

Did this for my 11th and had the best time :) I really loved it :)

Maybe bring them shopping if it's a girls party or Lazer tag for a boys
