What's the cheapest Way to Fix my Xbox

My Xbox is broken and out of warranty. The DVD has stopped working. I think I could replace that myself but sometimes a coloured bar appears across the screen which from what I've read online could indicate a problem with graphics card. What's the cheapest way to fix or replace my machine?
