Night Storage Heating meter for immersion

Is it allowed to have your "Bath" immersion supplied by a Night Storage Heating meter supply? This is a common enough configuration in the UK, where people still have separate heating tariffs like Heatwise.

The "Sink" or boost element would still be on the 24 hour supply.

    Hi Red Alert,

A short and simple answer for you unfortunately; with our current tariffs, only night storage heaters are permitted to be configured to work with such a meter.

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.

    Thanks,

    David.

You can always apply to ESB to get a day/night meter installed, there is no charge for this from the ESB, though the tariffs are slightly different vs the single 24hr meter tariff. I have a day/night meter and heat immersion on nights using a timer and find it works well. However I live in non mains gas land and use oil for heating. If you take heating oil @ 80 cent/l with a heating value of 10 kWhr/litre this means the oil heating is costing 8 cent/kWhr, and of course then you have to take into account oil boiler efficiency of 80-90% heat loss from flue, uninsulated pipes etc.

Looking at it on this basis, the electrical immersion heating on the night rate doesn't look so bad
