what age to stop watching cartoons?

I love cartoons. I remember from years ago, an elderly relation of ours who was a shrink telling everybody to be quiet whenever a cartoon was on TV.

I used to always watch cartoons in the morning when I was getting ready for school. I think I was maybe 10/11 when I started watching the adult morning breakfast show, equivalent of Ireland AM at home.

I thought I was so grown up

Well,I'm 32,and I still love my Simpsons (20th century episodes only),South Park and Futurama.Don't intend to ever stop watching them as long as they are good.

My dad was in his eighties, he still watched his animated cartoons - old ones like Tom and Jerry and such but the likes of Wallace and Gromit too:) Your never to old(or young) to watch a good cartoon.

I realize now that there were jokes and funny moments in cartoons I used to watch as a child that I only find funny now as an adult. When I look back I begin to see just how genius some shows were.

Tom & Jerry is absolutely brilliant - the old-skool one that is, with the Gershwin music and the politically incorrect "mammy". I'd say adults appreciate it even more than kids do tbh...

I saw an episode on late last weekend and said I'd give it a gander before bed having heard good things about it.

I have rarely seen such a profoundly unfunny comedy in my entire life. Absolute crap from beginning to end. I stayed with it, in case I was missing something blindingly obvious. Nope. It was short, which was an act of mercy by the creators.

Meanwhile, barely anyone has heard of let alone seen Nichijou, which is the funniest television show currently airing. Crap 1, quality nil.

Never OP - Simple as.

There's a period that starts when you're like 9 of "I'm too old to watch cartoons" but that passes.

On a related note, I watched Spongebob in Italian on holidays, fucking hilarious!

Simpsons in French, however, shockingly bad!

I still occasionally watch The Simpsons, South Park, etc., but I think the OP meant kids' cartoons such as Scooby-Doo and the likes.

So that probably ended when I was around 13. Had no TV for a year and no Internet, so I couldn't have watched them even if I wanted to.

Aside from the Simpsons (most episodes of which I've seen ad nauseam) I love catroons like The Road Runner, Ulysses 31, Battle Of The Planets, Scooby Doo.

I'm 36 and have no intention to ever stop watching cartoons.

Well I for one am glad to know that I'm not to only one who still watches cartoons( not simpsons/south park/family guy etc)

Of course I would feel a bit better if I had a kid, younger brother/sister or any somewhat valid reason to stick on the likes of SpongeBob, Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy or Handy Manny

Seriously though, with alot of modern cartoons, the appeal is lost. They make no sense to anyone over the age of about ten. Years ago, cartoons like Tom & Jerry were amusing for all ages.

I watch the likes of Family Guy, American Dad etc, but realistically, those aren't conventional cartoons, in the sense that they're aimed towards adults. I have a housemate aged 25 who loves nothing more then watching Teenage Muntant Hero Turtles, Animaniacs, and so on so forth, but to be honest, I'd consider that an absolute pain. Apart from spongebob, couldn't watch cartoons of that calibre.

Nothing I like better than sitting at home with a cup of tea watching Chowder or Foster''s Home For Imaginary Friends. Absolutely nothing wrong with watching cartoons, the better ones appeal equally to adults as they do to kids with SpongeBOb in particular having some very adult jokes.
