Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

First of all sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place!

I recently started driving and after looking at all the different car insurance companies it came down to First Ireland and Axa.. First Ireland was cheaper when you combined it with their lessons deal (do 10 lessons with an instructor approved by them and you get the equivalent of one years no claims bonus off the insurance). At the time I didnt fancy doing the 10 lessons before I got insured so I looked around and found Axa, about €150 more expensive but the cover they were offering was instant.

Ive changed my mind again and would like to go back with the idea of getting insured by First Ireland.. Does anyone know am I under any obligation to Axa? All I have done is rang them and told them I'd like the quote, they sent me out details and a policy number but no insurance disk and I havent paid them yet. I have to pay by next Friday if I want to go ahead with it.. Since I have been issued a policy number am I under obligation to go ahead with them?

I cant find any info on their website or in the booklets they send me out.. and as its Sunday I cant call them!

Any help would be hugely appreciated! Thanks!

Edit: I found something on the website about cancelling the policy once you send back the disk and certificate.. but nothing about a cancellation fee or anything of that nature if you havent paid yet!

Its only a quote, your under no obligation at all, thats 100%. You could have 20 quotes if you wanted. Dont worry about it at all. They may ring you and ask you if your going ahead with it, you say " No thanks" they say "why", you say " got a better deal". Job done end of story. Ring them again next year for a new quote, they will probably keep you on file and offer you a new quote anually anyway.

Thanks for the reply.. I was under the impression it was more than a quote though, that they are just waiting for payment from me to send out the disk.. The letter I recieved says as long as I pay by next Friday my cover was affective from Friday just gone, the 16th.

IIRC if you bought this over the phone you have a "cooling off period" - so you can cancel with no penalty within 14 days I think. Which is probably why they give you two weeks to pay!
