Thomson Router randomly resetting

    Hi lads,

    We have 50mb with UPC and the new Thomson router. We have noticed that all the lights knock off randomly...sometimes it's a few times a day. We have to turn it off and turn it back on again. It's not the lease time or anything it just seems to happen any time. Could it be a faulty modem?

    This happened to me, and the wires on the splitters were backwards causing a bad signal to the router. A weak signal causes the router to reset.

    One tip:

    When you're connecting up the F-connectors (the standard plugs used on cable TV/satellite gear) you have to be 100% sure that you do not bend the centre wire that sticks out of the plug.

    Insert the plug very straight, then hand-tighten the screw, and then very very gently tighten it with the little spanner supplied. You shouldn't need to tighten it more than a very small amount.

    Also, if you're using any extension wiring that was not supplied by UPC, make sure it is at least satellite grade. Otherwise, you'll pick up noise and interference.

    They also supply little dummy load terminator caps. You should fit these to any spare UPC sockets that are not already connected up. It helps prevents signal leakage and interference.
