Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bike shed advice please

I would like to get a shed to store three or possibly four bikes.

Obviously I want it dry and to try and stop moisture and rust during the winter.

I was swaying towards a plastic shed as they are easy to move about.

    Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

I have seen a few light aluminium and plastic sheds blow away in heavy winds so if you do get one then make sure they are bolted down. I have a bikebarn that I use for one of my motorbikes, sometimes I put my bicycle into it too (if I am too lazy to go to my garden shed) might be worth a look, I think they are about €170 delivered and might hold 4 bikes at a push.

Looks interesting, but no pricing or availability information and not updated since 2009. I assume it's an Irish product?

It also is for 'mountain bikes' so you need to wear baggy shorts to use it.

That's because roadies sleep with their bikes.

Exactly. Mine are in the house. The kids bikes are outside in a shed from Argos. They aren't too bad. Made by Dieter I think. Worth looking at.

The problem with Morgan's secure shed is (a) it's damn ugly and (b) it's over 2m high.

I think there are two sane approaches to bike security:

    - Lock them to the ground in a weatherproof shelter (e.g. shed).
    - Leave them unlocked in an attack-proof shelter (e.g. house, bike fortress)

Defence-in-depth advocates would probably insist on both, but I can't be arsed to go through two sets of locks (and neither could the kids).

With nine bikes in the house and all domestic credit exhausted, I'm thinking of building some sort of sliding-doored brick shelter around the edge of my front garden. Is there a boards forum for building stuff?

I like the sound of that. Would be great for the cargo bike that as yet only exists in my dreams. (Since most house-owners seem to have converted garages into something else these days.)

I read that as: 'The kids are outside in a shed from Argos.' and thought it sounded reasonable enough...
