Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey all,

A quick query for baseball fans here, is it possible to be out twice in the same inning? Like if you bat first, and are out, and then the next 8 people all get hits, does that mean you get another at-bat? I've tried googling but can't find an answer to this...

Yes you can. It's theoretically possible to be out 3 times, if everyone else keeps getting on base.

I would have thought you were out until the next innings! Even if your 8 team mates all get hits, you couldn't get back into bat as they would continue to bat - if that happened, you would score 4 runs and those scorers would be back at bat and you would be still be sitting in the dugout!!!

No. Your understanding of the rules seems to be a bit foggy. If you watch a game or two you'll pick it up like lighting :)
An out is just an out (3 outs ends the inning)...there's no punishment in the form of not getting to bat again (you can still drive in a run while making an out after all)
A player bats whenever his turn in the lineup comes around (regardless whether that's in the same inning or 1-3 innings later)

There's a rule in baseball that you have to bat in order. If you bat and it isn't your turn, if the other team notices, you're out. So even if you make an out, if the team bats around, you go again.

Yup just checked April 5 Chris Young and Jose Reyes batted twice in the top of the third at the Phils in an 11 at bat inning. God that was a great game for Chris Young.

In the Yankees V Orioles night game on 30th July in Yankee Stadium, the Yankees sent 16 players to the plate in the 1st inning.

Everyone except Nunez and Gardner batted twice in the inning. Jeter was out 1st time up batting lead-off, and in his 2nd at bat hit a 2 RBI single.

How do I know all this? Well, I was there :D

The Mariners let 14 Indians come to the plate in a game back in April scoring 10 runs :( 3 players had two hits in the inning http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2011_04_08_clemlb_seamlb_1&mode=video
