My computer won't start properly, I keep getting the following message.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Needless to say I don't have the startup cd, if anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated, it's driving me nuts.

What version of Windows? Can you download the file from Microsoft or get a copy from a friend/colleague.

If you can get hold of the file then you could boot from a live CD / USB and replace the corrupted one.
