I know that both the Rugby and Soccer forums allow links to be posted. However there seems to be an issue on the cycling forum. Is there an official position on posting live streams?

Did you ask the cycle forum mods?

    Different forums allow different things.

IIRC links to streams are allowed as in the soccer,MMA,wrestling etc forums as boards is not hosting them so are covered from a copywrite point of view but as MD said, best check with the local mods to see whats kosher in their book.

    No-one has asked us;)

OP, have anything specific you can point to in the cycling forum on this?

There's nothing in our charter preventing it, although we will occasionally delete something if we know it's an illegal stream

If this is the case, why is discussion of where to download TV shows, etc against the Television forum charter?

I'm not having a go at the cycling forum. Just wondering the boards.ie position.

No links to a live feed (allowed?)

    Thanks

A link to a TG4 stream would be a legal stream, but a link to a justin.tv stream would be illegal. However these are posted on the rugby and soccer forums.

*notes down where illegal streams can be had*

As boards can be held liable for copyrighted material that should be snipped, sometimes things are snipped to error on the side of caution.
People can still PM links to each other.

This is about streaming live events, not downloading.

A thin line mayhap but see
Preemtively we ban Bittorrent links to music and tv and warez out of hand because they are almost always point to illegal files. The links themselves are not illegal (currently).

if it breaches a copyright then the answer is a definite no.

if it is a legit stream thats free for all, then check with the mods

Sports streaming spambots are not welcome in American Football. A couple weekends ago we were attacked by several, where almost 40 new threads flooded our forum in a 24 hour period, crowding out all other discussion threads.
