WDF World Cup 2011

    The WDF World Cup gets underway later this evening in Castlebar Co Mayo with the opening ceremony taking place this evening with the team events starting tomorrow. The Irish men's team have been drawn in Group 5 in an easy looking group and they should easily qualify for the last 16.

    Both Ireland and Northern Ireland qualified out of their groups but both were knocked out in the last 16. Ireland were pipped 9-8 by Denmark while Northern Ireland were thumped 9-1 by Finland.

    Other last 16 games included England easily defeating Scotland 9-2 while South Africa caused a shock when they defeated 1 of the pre-tournament favourites Holland 9-7. Full details of the groups and games can be found on the link in the OP.

    Another round of events today in Castlebar which included the boys and girls singles,the ladies pairs and the mens singles.

    In the mens singles Martin Adams will play Scott Waites in Saturday's final. Connie Finnan was the furthest Irish player reaching the last 16 where he was defeated by Welsh player Wayne Warren.

    Today the mens teams quarter and semi finals were played,the mens pairs were played down to the last 2,the ladies singles was played down to the last 2 and youth events were played.

    England will play Finland in tomorrow's men's team final. The English pairing of Martin Adams and Tony O'Shea will play a Swedish pairing in tomorrow's pairs final. Connie Finnan and Martin McCloskey were the furthest Irish pair going out in the last 32. England's Trina Gulliver will play Welsh player Julie Gore in tomorrow's ladies final. Olive McIntyre was the furthest Irish lady reaching the quarter finals.

    Today was the last day in Castlebar with all the finals been played and out of the 7 finals England were triumphant in 6 of them.

    England beat Finland in the team final 9-8 with Scott Waites hitting the winning double in the deciding leg. Scott Waites won the men's singles final 7-3 against Martin Adams with an impressive 32.91 average. Holland's Jerry Hendricks won the youths final 6-4 with a very good 32.00 average.

    thanks Dartboy, only for you we would not hear about these or the BDO. I honestly thought one of the National radio stations would have given this a mention over the last few days. But thten again darts is always a media blackout!
