I finally put a silver passenger door on my green avensis a couple of weeks back. It is a real head turner now. Back in the 80s nobody would have batted an eyelid. I feel like an art student.

Used to love the Brown Ford Escorts at home. Complete metallic blue and then a glaring red door.

    God be with the days.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

It's less than 20 years ago that there were plenty of cars driving around with actual rust holes in the panels

    Rat look :D

I see a high spec Hungarian reg BMW driving around that's yellow and black. That owner thinks he stands out too. He does...

Mine isn't a rat rod, I might have to wait a few more years for that.. The missus keeps telling me to get rid of it, her all fancy in her 05 golf. The old TD avensis was one of the last epic cars. An indestructobus

VW made a Polo Harlequin as below. Very understated.

The Japs were mad into two tone colours in the 1980s, mostly reserved for top spec models.

Lasted into the mid 1990s with Lexus:

But, OP, I know what you are getting at. Tough times. Some do it out of necessity and some do it because they are too cheap and lazy to get it sprayed.

Saw a c30 in the same colours as this at the cannonball. Looks brilliant in the flesh

As long as wood panneled cars don't come into fashion again it's all good.
