Just heard that parts of the park are being closed for up to 3 months as the main road Chesterfield Ave is being resurfaced.
Anyone have more info on which gates, times, etc.

Pretty much the entire Chesterfield Avenue is closed

Nightmare for 12 weeks from the looks of it

Little bit of exaggeration in the title there :D

Major traffic disruption is expected as almost the entire length of Chesterfield Avenue will be closed to traffic. It will involve closing the road from the Gough Roundabout near the Parkgate Street entrance to the Mountjoy Roundabout beside the Castleknock Gate. A one-way system will be put in place inside the park which will essentially turn it into a large roundabout. The reconstruction project is due to last about 12 weeks and the road should be reopened by Christmas.

Sorry to the commuters, but wouldn't it be great if no cars were allowed in at all?

This makes sense, re-surface the road just in time for the snow to come and f**k it all up again by January.

They are not resurfacing the road.

The road is being completely rebuilt from the foundations to cater for the traffic that uses it.

so why not take the cheaper simpler and better option for the park and restrict traffic rather than giving in and turning it into a recognised commuter route?

That would just push the traffic onto the roads around the park, which aren't up to the job either, and would probably be more expensive to bring up to standard.

Though I do like the idea of a car free park.

This is probably a really stupid question but can you drive up Chesterfield Avenue at any time of the night or do they close the park gates? I have to drive that way tonight and I've never actually driven through the park at all before - day or night.

    Opening Hours
The Phoenix Park is open 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, all year round. The main gates of the Park at Parkgate Street and Castleknock Gate are open 24 hours. The side gates to the Park are open from 7am until 11pm.
