Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Has anyone heard of a product that comes in a white powder form and you mix it with nuts you are feeding the calves that supposed to be very good at virus prevention pneumonia etc. It comes in a box with so many sacheths of the powder in it, think it does about 20 calves and is around 70 euro.Anyone know the name of it or have any experience of using , i buy in calves after weaning and find them very susceptible to virus i suppose it is with the stress of being weaned and moving, so would try this if it was any good .

    Hi KMac.
It is CTC powder but as far as I know it is only from a vet or prescription now cause it is basically doxycycline. They are afraid of people mixing it themselves also so it is hard enough got.

That said, I used it last year when a good few weanlings got pnuemonia and found it very good.

Best get the bulk bag if you are getting it. Good bit cheaper and just weigh in the amount each day.

Well I think that CTC or any other powder won't do anything good or bad for a virus, because its an antibiotic.

The other possibility is that the OP is talking about a homoeopathic/alternative medicine. Which won't do anything good or bad for a virus either.

Measures that have a real impact on virus pneumonia?

I think you are down to the basics of reducing stress, vaccinating, not mixing batches, avoiding marts, getting calves eating meal before weaning, not skulling/squeezing near weaning time, all very tedious things to do, and many impractical , but they work.

I think that the man who comes up with a powder to put on the meal that will bypass the need for all that will be a very rich man indeed.
