    Hi,

A friend paid to get a website done up and the designer used wordpress ( it was a cheap and cheerful effort ).

I had a look at it and compared to what you see on youtube tutorials there arent as many options under his menus.

So all he has is the admin login and password. Am I right in saying that he will be limited in what he can change on the site because he doesnt have the anything stored on his pc?

Doesnt have the anything? Not sure what that means exactly but they dont need anything particular on their pc to be able to edit the content through wordpress. Its possible they havent been given full admin access to the admin panel but even at that there would be a limit to what can be changed. To edit the site design and how it looks is different and requires knowledge or css, html and php. To that you will at the very least need ftp software such as filezilla and an editor like notepad++.

Wordpress is available in two versions.

    1) Wordpress.com

    2) Wordpress.org

With the first version Wordpress themselves host the theme and all it's content. You are fairly limited in the different themes and widgets you can use.

The second version is uploaded onto your own server space and you can basically do whatever you want with it. The only limit is development skills of the person creating the site, the amount of money you are will topay for someone else's work (there are a million and one themes out there - quite a few free ones) and the inherent limitations of Wordpress itself.

In neither case is anything stored on your computer. Data is either stored on Wordpress servers (.com version) or on your own server (.org version). If your friend isn't getting a full menu then perhaps there is a problem with the installation.

Depending on how old the site is - it could be an outdated version of Wordpress. You could try logging in as an admin and updating it - but I'm not sure of the implications this will have on a template that was designed for the older versions (it could be nothing).

Can you share a link of the site and can check what version it could be?

liger, you'd rather post a screenshot of what you have in admin area, so that we could at least try to help you.
You don't need anything on your PC to run/edit Wordpress site except the browser and internet connection.
