can't believe I bloody forgot this was back on!!

4OD here I come! Great show. Jack Whitehall is an animal!

Last nights was one of the weaker episodes I think, still a couple of great lines in it, but I think JP relegated to his room asking for soup was a bit meh.

Thought this weeks episode was alright. Tiny bit farcical maybe with the muggings and what not. Still enjoyed it though. I really don't like this new girl that Kingsley is seeing. I remember her being in The Fades on BBC 3 last year and I didn't like her on that either. We're probably not meant to like the character though?

Josie's still my favourite. She goes from being really sweet and lovely to a complete nut. Her reaction to Sabine asking if she broke yer one's arm on purpose was hilarious. Some of her facial expressions too are brilliant.

Joise cracked me up this week. "You've become everything you hate! Crushing the little guy who loves they little chocolates because they fit perfectly in their little tummies" and her whole pancake rant to Vod was hilarious too.

Even Sabine is growing on me.

Can't stand Kingsley's girlfriend though, hope we've seen the back of her.

This weeks episode was one of the best.

Although JP didnt feature heavily, the repeated iphone/razor demonstration to Sauron was hilarious.

Althought I dont care much for the Oregan storyline.....except that the 'creepy ex/teacher' is being played excellently....those lingering hugs.

I liked Oregan last year, but she seems to be off on her own mostly this year. Very limited interaction with the other students.

Jumanji! Enjoyable episode, a good few laughs.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

I felt so bad for JP. I was getting a bit emotional when he was burning his stuff and then Vod and Oregan came out to him. But then he said about the villa in italy and the apartment in Dubai. Hilarious.

Are they going somewhere dark with Josie? I thought they'd just have Kingsley realise that he didn't actually like the other one and have him and Josie hook up again, but every week Josie seems to be more and more unhinged.

It's a show more enjoyable than it is good. Perhaps the only likeable characters are JP and, at a stretch, Howard. The rest come across as selfish idiots who are too much of charactures to be invested in. It's a show that I see absolutely no reason why it should be 25 minutes rather than the 40 it actually gets.

Again, I enjoy it but when the supposed posh twat is the most humanised character on the show you know something is going wrong.

^ JP is the most selfish one of them all!! And they are supposed to be 18/19 which is a pretty selfish age for most people, especially when they're away at college.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Dont really see Kingsley as particularly selfish, he drove Josie to wales, he gave Howard his ticket to the BP thing, bit wet but not selfish, Oregan has given Vod money regularly, Vod got Josie a job, Howard offers everyone free meat, Josie made everyone pancakes! JP gave them all 131 bottles of wine.

She made them so many f**king pancakes they thought it was pancake day!

    Debatable, to say the least.

As a TV show it makes for a flood of ignorance and little redeemable qualities - Vod being the worst offender, Oregon's dopey self-centred approach being equalled by Josie's descent from normalcy into a character driven by nothing but jealousy and one that there is little option but to actively root against, something they obviously don't want given their very, very tired will-they-won't-they storyline with Kingsley. Kingsley is basically Simon from The Inbetweeners going to college as written by a less skilled writer. Howard verges on annoying at times but at least he and JP's characters tend to show vulnerability far more effectively than the others. The fact JP is the most obviously dickish of the lot (Vod aside) and he is likeable is the biggest and clearest indictment you could ever make against what's happening with the others.

The writers' approach to Sabine is hard to understand - are we to agree with the characters and think she is a kill-joy annoyance (why?) or are we to laugh at the characters for their reactions to a level-headed person? I've done neither so far.

I did expect more from the braintrust behind Peep Show but, again, I think it's still a enjoyable show that is more fun than it is good, which is more than you can say for most shows.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

I think the characters are supposed to be sterotypes and somewhat one dimensional to make the show appealing to a wide range of people. Most college students will be able to see themselves and their friends in one of the characters.

Personally I never liked Peep Show and wasn't inclined to watch this last year because of the association with that show which I never found even slightly funny. Each to their own.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,734 Mod ✭✭✭✭Boom_Bap

    Howard Scored!!!! Steamy specs.

I love this show. Josie's description of how a girl can become a lesbian was hilarious.

JP making the sandwich with the sword and handing it to the P*ssy Man on the sword was just one of those subtle touches that make shows for me.
And Vod's hunting and subsequent stew making in the background kept me entertained.

I don't like her at all, she's my least favourite character :P I think JP is probably the funniest... Or maybe Howard.

Howard is my favourite, Greg McHugh is a great character actor.

For me its gotta be JP. The things he comes out with are really funny. I wonder how much imput Jack whitehall has with his lines. :) I like Vod cos she takes no sh*t and just doesnt care. Josie can be very whiny sometimes but over all i like it, it may not be the most fantastic show that it is on air at the moment but its worth watching just for a laugh :) Nothin too serious :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Kingsley is the least funny but probably most genuine of the characters, the straightman for the rest of them I suppose.

    Ah stop, she's comical :P

    Oregon: You're, like, librerted right?
Vod: ... Ooh, well, you think you are don't you? Then you find yourself buying a pair of sweatshop Nikes and a Nazi frappuccino and you think, actually I'm just a joke really aren't I?
    Oregon: ???

I spat coke on my screen laughing at that bit :pac:

I've found the second season a little hit and miss..

.. but that was a fantastic episode!

Really didn't want to see that scene with
Josie scaling through that woman's cheek.. I've an appointment with the hygienist next Wednesday!

    ^ Yep, was the same.

^ Same. Whole episode I was thinking I knew him. Figured it out by the end.

I think that was probably the best episode of the series so far. Even Heather didn't annoy me in this one. I thought they were going to do something like this with Josie, not the keys thing, but the whole spiraling out of control thing.

Vod was hilarious tonight. As was JP. I'm not sure Jack Whitehall is much of an actor but he manages to make things hilarious and really sad at the same time. Burning the doodle of his dad into the jam jar made me laugh but also want to hug him.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

Maybe you guys knew this already, but I just discovered that Charlotte Richie (Oregon) used to be in like a classical crossover girl group type thing. They were called All Angels and were apparently quite successful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 708 ✭✭✭WindmillWarrior

The sex scene with Vod and the handyman was very funny I thought.
I agree it can be a bit hit and miss though, and even annoying at times, but the last 2 episodes really did make me laugh. JP is a legend!

    JUMANJI!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,950 ✭✭✭Hande hoche!

Enjoyable episode and it was good to see Robert Webb back. Found JP brilliant in this , his drawing of Oregon and the description of the shower incident while clinging to the rock.

The last two episodes are the best the show has been IMO!

My girlfriend's never seen the show before but watched the latest two episodes and seems to really like it.. but she is a big Jack Whitehall fan.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

Enjoyed last night's a lot. I'm worried about Josie though, last night was the first time I thought she actually is a bit of a bitch. Although, they may just be leading her towards a nervous breakdown. I thought her plan to get back on her course was hilarious but it's not really that farcical a show so it just made her seem really unhinged.

I was confused though, is she taking the anxiety pills because she's been prescribed them, or has she just bought them off some guy in the toilets at the student union?

I enjoyed it a lot tonight. The Implodium Implodes was epic (written by Graham Coxon out of Blur, no less)

Nice extra interview with the original Hartnell Avenue line-up here

I have to say I'm still really enjoying the series as a whole. Wasn't sure if it would carry on from a successful first season but am happy to say I think it has.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,413 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah, think it's even better than the first series.

The first series took a while to really get going - alhough it hit it's stride after the dinner party episode.

It takes such an incredible talent to write a song that is absolutely terrible in many ways, yet sounds brilliant.

Loved that episode. Fresh Meat does keep going from strength-to-strength.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

One of the many things I love about Fresh Meat is the scenes where they're doing or saying something beyond ridiculous and yet it manages to be very emotional and heartfelt too. Josie last night getting found out by everyone and Vod saying "I'm not saying this to be mean, but I don't think you can be a dentist anymore." And her reply, "But all I've ever wanted is to give myself to dental hygiene!" was hilarious but sad at the same time. Much like JP and the horse last year.

I honestly think this is one of the best shows on TV at the moment.

JP's email address doesn't work :( I mailed him about booking HA for my wedding but no luck.

It looks like Fresh Meat has been commissioned for another series. Good to see, despite a couple of wobbly episodes at the start of Series 2 it has been consistently good.

    http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2012/11/23/16621/more_meat
Fresh Meat is to return for a third series, star Jack Whitehall has revealed.
In an interview to plug his new stand-up DVD, he said: ‘We've just had a third series commissioned, so that's great. I don't know how many they plan to do, but I love doing it.’

But he also complained about the show's slot in the schedules, currently Tuesday evenings at 10pm,.
‘I just wish it had a better slot on Channel 4,’ he told Shortlist magazine. ‘Students will find it, but it would be nice if it got more of an audience who don't know about it, and I'm not sure it will get that on Tuesday night after Jewish Mum Of The Year.’

    Can't wait for more!

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

That was the perfect ending to a perfect series. JP desperately trying to keep everyone together was sweet and hilarious all at once. Howard and his pig, Oregon and Tony's plan to deny deny deny! So funny. And their party at the end with Oregon just weeping on the couch. So funny.

I honestly can't believe JP has grown on me so much. I hated him at the start of the first series and now he's like the heart of the show.

    Roll on series 3!

JP's "...Yeah" to Dylan was brilliant! Great episode and series overall.

Not sure they need to keep repeating the same story with Josie and Kingsley though?
