What the hell is this?

I'm bumbling about the SP part of the game and I came across an area underground that looks like a mineshaft or something. It's kind of odd and I was wondering if anyone else had found the same?

As you can see it's got it's own tracks and everything. Is this normal in 1.8? I heard something about strongholds, but I thought they'd be made out of the new stone bricks. The area itself is just like a normal cave system, but has parts of it with these mineshafts in it.

Yep, mineshafts! There's loads of them :P Watch out for the cave spiders along there, they poison ya

Yeah, I just stumbled upon a generator for them. The room is covered in webs. It's bloody freaky. May have to change to "Peaceful" just so I don't sh*t myself the next time they pop out.

IMO the most dangerous mob in the game now. Poison is too good, there needs to be an antidote.

damn cave spiders freaked me out, i hadnt heard of them. i thought i was going mad , seen some and was sure i was safe cuz there wasnt enough room for a spider to get through, not these pesky guys tho!! i think they can fit tru a 1 bloxk wide gap?

Yep, they have a smaller hitbox and are also very hard to hit as a result (IIRC they were originally supposed to be physically smaller than regular spiders but they ended up a palette-swap). They are also faster at moving and attacking than most mobs, spiders included.

only noticed trying to kill a few playing today, how quick they are. interesting mob to trow into the mix. anyone else notice how dependent they were on machine gunning with a bow and a hotbar full of food? new mobs and combat FTW!!!

In 1.7.3 machine-gunning was useless as only Slimes could be damaged more than once per tick, so all the other arrows were wasted.

That said, supercharging your shots is just pure awesome. Shame arrows are so hard to get without resorting to a mob trap...

Yeah, I really wish you could craft 2 gravel blocks into a flint piece. That'd be nice. Gravel is such an otherwise useless item :P
