Might be worth having a chat with the residents in Templars, they have proved community spirit is not dead, just goes to show what can be achieved, when they come together.
Talk is easy bud. We will have to wait to see if these new things actually pay off in reality. Hopefully it does

Waterford Whispers News on the ball again! http://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2011/10/13/450-un-peacekeepers-sent-to-templars-hall/
THE United Nations is to send 450 peacekeeping troops to Templars Hall after 45 residents were insulted and hundreds more kept awake in a renewed stand off between students and natives across the housing estate.
According to sources inside the compound, the house parties are believed to be the noisiest since freshers week. Some home owners, who rent their home from the bank, have claimed this morning that students as young as twenty were forincating‘ on thier lawns in a desperate attempt to intimidate them from their homes.
I will not be forced out of my house by a herd of pornographers!” said long time resident Sarah Hunt.
“I bought this house eight months ago not realising it is the biggest student accommodation site in the city! How was I supposed to predict this carry?
“Its a sad day and age when people have to actually research an area before moving their family into it.”
“Thank God the UN are here. Its about time.” she added.
The Peacekeeping force will be made up of 367 men and 83 women from the 32nd Infantry Battalion and will fly into the troubled estate over the next four days. It is believed a base will be set up on the green area and a team of specially trained negotiators will liaise with both groups in an effort to restore peace, love and harmony between the two factions.
Last night vandals kicked over several wheelie bins in the area, forcing owners to pick them up with their hands. Some students stooped so low as to put traffic cones on their heads and run around aimlessly terrifying residents.
Tesco’s have also reported a surge in shopping trolley thefts from their new store in Ballybeg.
Nato has played down the prospects of renewed conflict, saying the United Nations are committed to keeping the peace and quelling tensions.
Nato spokesperson Hillary Swag said: “At the end of the day, we are dealing with drunken school kids. What could possible go wrong?”
WWN will give an update on the story in the coming week.

You want to send Rudy Giuliani an email and see if he has any interest in running for president of Eire or even mayor of Waterford. He will sort out Manor St, Templars hall, the druggies in Newports Sq and elsewhere, the hard men in the People Park, all that rot! Yeah, I know he's Italin and all, but hey, Eire is an open country now! Just think about this.....cops who actually have to do their jobs, arrests made of scummers instead of victims of crime, jaaaayyysus he's yer man!

    It's made Leinster House.

From The Munster Express facebook page.

TEMPLARS HALL 'DISGRACE' REACHES LEINSTER HOUSE
Political anger at the ongoing unrest at Templars Hall extended to the Seanad
as we went to press, less than a week after residents witnessed a young couple
having sex in the Waterford city estate. See tomorrow's paper.

    Most likely,
To be honest the coverage might be no harm.

Many parents may not know what their little darlings are up to so this may make them aware of it and might just take a few of them out of the running,

I was a student in WIT myself up until summer just gone. I must say I'm fond of a mad session myself but the students in Templars Hall just take the mickey. I went there once and never again, just too out of hand. I've noticed it's always the students that aren't from Waterford themselves, and Mammy and Daddy don't have a clue what they're up to!

A class mate informed me this morning that some form of paper that had been lit on fire was pushed through his letter box in the early hours this morning. Apparently it was not the only house that this happened to?

If its this bad now what the hell is it going to be like come college xmas day?

    scumbags

Last Wednesday of the year before they finish the majority hit the pub for the day. Very messy. Shít always goes down.

Worth noting it's not been official for 9 years or so.

Gardaí in Waterford are investigating two fires at the same housing estate in the city in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí are investigating two fires at the same housing estate in Waterford city in the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí believe the fires were caused by something that was put through the letter boxes of both houses in Templars Hall between 2am and 4am.
The two homes were occupied at the time but no-one was injured.
Both scenes have been preserved for a technical examination.

I wonder which "side" the person who did this is on. Could easily be students dicking around or a fed up resident. Really awful thing to do in fairness. If the wrong thing was under the letter opening then the house could have gone up fairly quickly and I'd be surprised at that time of the night those in the house would be alert.

Appalling comment. Whoever is responsible has committed a serious crime, and all concerned are fortunate that we aren't talking about an awful tragedy.

Edit: The way I'm reading this incident, students have been targeted in some form of vigilante style attack.

If you are saying that an example should be made of whoever has done this, obviously I totally agree with you.

could have been anyone, even troublemakers from neighboring estates who did it for the laugh thinking students would get the blame

Very true. I'd be surprised if it wasn't from within the estate though.

I'd be extremely surprised if a student would have done something like this. Having a house party is one thing but trying to burn down a house is completely different. It could have been anyone.

Were the houses attacked, student houses or were they non-student houses?

Whoever did it, should hopefully see serious jail-time.

Could this be seen as attempted murder, given that if the houses went up, there would be very little chance of escape considering the stairs is right behind the front door in houses in Templars?

Apparently it was 4 houses. 2 student houses and 2 resident.
Well thats what I seen on some Templars Hall FB pageymabob

It's terrible what goes on there. A friend of mine had to move out of TH as it got soo bad during the week. She spent sleepless nights laying awake listening to the noise from students on both sides. Something has to be done soon! No wonder a lot of houses are up for sale there.:(

What you suggest could be done to keep both sides happy?

No wonder the Gardai were stopping cars coming out of there this morning.

If it requires the kind of carry on that we have been seeing to keep the students 'happy' then I wouldn't care if they were miserable. Why should they enjoy that degree of 'happiness'? A half civilized environment would probably keep the owner/residents happy

I imagine it would be a nightmare for families bringing their kids to schools to have to stop at gardai points on their way to school. WIT should try and start organising student housing so the students are not spread across housing estates.
