Replacing a garden hedge (suggestions)

Hi all.

We are hoping someone may be able to suggest a good hedge as a replacement to our old one that was killed during the bad weather last winter. The hedge was in place for about 60+years (I dont know the name of the hedge) but after last years weather, it was its last. The hedge was about 4 foot high, ran along the side of the house garden walls and was full, required cutting 5/6 times every summer. Can anyone recommend a similar hedge that would survive the bad winter weather we're having and grow quickly ?

Something like this but I cant be sure. Probably cut it 4 times a year, 5/6 may have been a bit much thinking about it..

Hi, the Portugeuse Laurel is a beautiful and hardy hedge. I love it and use it when I'm planting hedges. It has a medium growth rate and only needs to be cut twice a year. October is the perfect time to plant a hedge as it's bareroot season and the plants are a lot cheaper. thanks pinky. based in west but would be worried about planting knowing that another fierce winter could kill it off.
