Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

DCC are running a Disposable Camera Challenge, coordinated by Ronan Palliser.
Each participant has exactly the same Disposable Camera and submits their favourite shot for the competition. The idea is to remove as much of the technology ( and quality ) as possible from the equation.

Being a long way away I have been supplied with some scans to select an image.

These were the shots I considered.

I selected the second last one to submit. I felt this image benefits from the deficiencies of the camera, thus turning them into an asset.

This is my effort for the same task - its not a competition though (thanks God). Mine is the same as CabanSails - a quick scan - I didn't even crop it (yet)

Is that Andreas sitting on the chair? (Missing a lot of things about Dublin)

The thing about those little cameras is they are so unpredictable. My selected image has now got TOTD on Pix.ie, who would have guessed?

I'm now keen to see what results others got with these wee things. Should be a fun night.

Ronan has said he will make available a slideshow of the images that were selected. As I will not be there on the night, that will have to do. Looking forward to seeing the results others get. I hear there were about thirty who took part.

I am now thinking I might buy a few of these cameras and shoot them for fun. Stuff all this high tech gear and quality glass!

They all seem a bit soft really, I reckon you must still be using the kit lens that came with your camera. The first thing you want to do is replace that. The more expensice the better. An L lense will mean you get much better shots. In addition you might need to stop down more because you get better depth of field and more bokeh when you do, though really you need a fullframe camera for that as they have more depth of field and therefore more bokeh than smaller cameras.
Looks like trickyy lighting conditions as well, you should shoot several frames and then blend them with somethibg like photomatix into what's called a 'HDR' to ensure that everything is evenly exposed. A side benefit is that you can get some really wild colours that way, your shoots look a little bit muted, a little more contrast and saturation would really make them pop.
If you really want to stand out from the crowd you could run them through instamatic or something similar to give them an 'old-skool' film look, complete with borders !

    Gotta love film <3

I won't be able to make it in tonight to see them at the Club as I have too much on. :( Some very nice images there!
