Norris's chance at a slot is probably buggered now. He must be bummed.

I don't want to bring homosexually into it, but by christ it seems some people in Ireland are intent on him having him on the ballot.

I take on board he did wrong, but this is basically a mash up of the first story.

    Norris needs to go pronto,
Its just a case of what comes up next, its turning more American by the day dishing the dirt on each candidate but you bet Norris with is sordid past has many a tale yet to be told.
He has become a distraction to the whole process and if the man had any dignity or respect for the race to the Aras he would just pull out the people do not want you Norris.

If Norris doesn't run, they might as well make Michael D president now. I'd say most Norris voters would transfer their vote to Michael D ahead of McGuinness. Thank fúck, if McGuinness gets it i'd be worried.

I'd rather vote for Norris than McGuinness.

EDIT: **** it, I'm probably going to blank-ballot this one

    You might be surprised.
Some might be upset at the establishment using a possible unfair electoral system to get their own man in - and thus vote for someone that will turn things about in upset!

no comment:D The fact that he is being taken seriosly as a candidate amazes me. Not because he is gay, because a lot of people are gay, big deal, but because he is a twat, and that's not what we need for a president. We need a dignified, presentable, uncontentious, bland figure-head. Someone like.....err, like....., jasus, I'm struggling here....

No it's not, the issue here is not the letters now-it's the fact he's hiding the truth and it's only coming out because he's been caught out

I'm McGuinness' biggest critic and have no intention of voting for him. But wtf, a Manchurian Candidate would indicate that he's under hypnosis and is unknowingly a trained assassin. :D

Hey Irish media, can we have a bit more scrutiny of the other candidates now? Especially the ones that are confirmed to be in the race. I'm sure they've done questionable things in the past too.

At this stage people who want to vote Norris will vote Norris, does who don't, won't. Continuing to try and sabotage his campaign is pointless now.

I have played in it - with a lot of the current players too - and yes, very dirty, back-stabbing and unreal.

Out of interest, what exactly are you worried about? It's been shown time and time again that the Irish president has no real power. It's not as if McGuinness could single-handedly cause the downfall of the country as head of state. Do you think he's going to order the DF to invade & reclaim NI or something? There's no denying that his history is questionable but he's being made out to be some sort of unknown bogeyman in order to blatantly scare people, and it's unnecessary. He hasn't caused the demise of Northern Ireland while he's been in power, so why do people feel that it will be any different if he were president?

And I say all that as someone who will be giving first preference to Higgins.

This man is not worthy of the Irish Presidency, fullstop.
And maybe when he was 10, he stole a lolly-pop, and maybe drank before being 18, and sent a few letters. Shame On Him, instead he should of ordered the deaths of a few people to get the respect needed to become next president.

Big whoopie doo. Nothing to see here same-o same-o just move on.

Thankfully he won't, and although it has been very weird & a bit scary the way many people "seem" to have just welcomed him into our Presidential race, almost as if he had no Provo baggage. I think the real money will stay with betting on Norris or Michael D Higgins, I honestly can't see the majority of the Irish public being hoodwinked into voting for ex-Porvo McGuinness to be our President  < The very thought is sooo crazy.

    Shane Ross makes it eighteen

Pringle and Seamus Healy won't back him
    Michael Lowry undecided
Mattie McGrath and Sentar Rónan Mullen extremely unlikely to back him. Mattie is looking to back Dana I believe

    Who have I missed? :)
I don't think there is anyone left

edit, I think Finian McGrath pulled his support from Norris and never came back. So I'll put him in undecided

This is the whole thing in a nutshell. It seems people are so desperate to get a homosexual on the ballot paper that he can do pretty much anything and people will still vote for him purely because of his sexuality.. The man has no shame. Not only should he pull out of this race AGAIN, he should resign as a senator too.

So you are condoning his concealment to the Irish public.

I really do not know what that has to do with Martin Mc Guinness. Besides I have another set of opinions on his candidacy.

If it's published what's the problem with posting it on a forum?

Why all the 'smoke and daggers'?

It is weird when you think about it, the fact that McGuinness (a self proclaimed member of the Provisional IRA) is being welcomed into the race, and yet Norris (who sent some ill advised letters) is being vilified. Just twelve or fifteen years ago McGuinness's name was mud down here, Why? because he always refused to condemn the IRA atrocities, and people suspected him of being in the IRA, which was a disgrace to most people down here! but now, as history is being re-written before our eyes, McGuinness is the hero of the hour, (with his IRA past as a badge of honour to many) while at the same time Senator David Norris is now seen as the bad fella

    Scratches head.

The Irish Times is not behind an internet subscription 'pay-wall' whereas the English Times is.

Because of the peace process, wasn't part of the reconciliation of that process to forgive and forget their past involvement in terrorism. Didn't they release all the prisoners because of that.

We know he has a past, we can even guess its grim, but they are fully in the political process now.

I fully supported Norris up to 2 months ago because he was gay and I thought honourable, but not now, lets face it he is not a good candidate.

Will this mean Katherine Zappone may consider withdrawing her nomination? She claimed to have required a written assurance from Norris that there would be no more revelations, it now seems that he misled her to get her nomination.

Why the hell didn't he just come clean about it at the time and give all the information?
