Looking at getting eircom phone watch for a new house I have bought, has anyone has any problems with it. Would people recommend it or recommend some other system ?

Shop around. You will get a better system for less with cheaper monitoring & service charges. Get around 3 quotes, insist on a proper site survey (Don't accept a quote over the phone you will end up with nasty suprises for areas not covered. Get everything in writing & ensure you are comparing like with like.
Also check what's covered. Eircoms quotes don't include an external bell.
That will be an optional extra that will cost you €200+
Ask what their service contract covers. They will limit you to 1 or 2 calls a year.
Some other companies will give you more.
Also ask them what happens if you change phone providers ? They won't let you use UPC etc. And oh don't let them sell you a GSM instead. That is not considered a secure form of monitoring by most in the industry.

PS . Do a search of Eircom Phonewatch on Boards. You will soon get a very clear picture.

There are plenty of good systems and installers out there to choose from. I would get a few company's to quote for the alarm, making sure you get a detailed list of components that they plan to install. This way there is no surprises. Monitoring cost is also a factor, how much will you be paying this year and if you decide to have it monitored next year how much is the monitoring and your service visits going to cost. As has being pointed out by koolkid, they don't install a live bell but this is a must on any system. If down the road you did decide to stop the monitoring on the alarm then there would be no live bell ringing outside.
