OK this might possibly be in the wrong place so mods feel free to move it.

Was just wondering has anyone attempted / suceeded in setting up a wireless internet connection in their house on campus in UL.? Im living in Kilmurry and its a bit of a pain not having the internet in the kitchen / sitting room so I decided to buy a router but having some problems setting it up, being asked for IP address and the likes. Anyone have any advice? Would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers guys..!

Technically connecting a router to the network like that invalidates your rental agreement i think!

Routers are not permitted to be attached to any portion of the campus network. Any devices,
which provide a routing service, will be immediately disconnected from the campus network. PC Connection from a PNAP Page 3 of 6 Last Updated: 21 September 2006
Ethernet hubs, which attach multiple devices to a single network outlet, are not routers and may
be attached to the campus network. It is important that all machines connected to a hub be
    registered with ITD.

what's your model of the router? Is it a real router or just an access point?

You are in breach of ITD's regulations by connecting your own network gear to the network

could it not be argued that plugging in a network card on a pc is a breach of those regs too?

It pretty much should work when you plug it in. Try it without any secruity settings (WAP WEP etc.).

try navigate to the ip 192.168.2.1 if that doesn't work and going via the cd and all that doesn't work you might have to set it up at home (or on another network) not the local one and give it a try. once it's set up on that you should be able to just plug it in here and use it.
