    Is it possible to use a smart phone to check email/surf through eircom account when out and about?

    Yes no problem but look at moving to a different provider like gmail.

    Thanks guys. i note there may be charges from the phone company though. For example meteor may charge me to access it. Also can you only get eircom content or all web such as posting here

    Anytime you use the internet on your mobile will you incur data charges. You should check what package you are on with your mobile provider and if data is not included you should check what the data charges are.
