Receive texts on your computer?

I have a cheap Android phone (Samsung Europa). Is there any way I can receive or be notified of text messages sent to it while I'm using my laptop? I hate having to keep my phone near me in order to hear an incoming message. Also if I step away I have to pick it up and check it every time. Just a pain in the arse.
