Cattle Sticks at the ploughing

Were do they buy all the cattle sticks that are for sale at the ploughing ???
Like you see lads selling them at 2 euro or 3 euro or 3 for a 5euro, were do they source them? i wonder do they have much profit out of them?

They can stick their cattle sticks. Plenty of ash plants growing on the sides of ditches.

I dont like those catle sticks at all. A) like somebody said earlier sticks grow on trees
and

they have a foam handle in case you hurt your wee hand but it doesnt mater that you are stinging the crap out the animal with the whip of those yokes. At least with a stick you can feel how hard you are hitting and adjust accordingly

i dont like it that every individual at the ploughing feels the need to have one in their hand... however at home i've found them to be good alright. they are light, bright and long. very useful for handling and sorting in pens etc. i dont like having to encourage an animal to move in a race with any stick but i dont think they are particularly good for it if they are used.

Reckon the worst stick I ever saw was a bit of hazel with black waterpipe over the end half

And boy did the owner know how to use it.

Yes a length of 3/4" hydrodare pipe makes a cheap and effective stick;)

They're great for sorting cattle alright. They're long, great for tipping cattle back on the nose etc. I don't think they should be used to beat cattle though. Twice as severe as an ash plant. I know in meat factories, they'd clear you if they saw you hitting cattle with them. They mark the meat.
