and your neighbour does nothing about it when you complain?

A buddy of mine's next door neighbour has a dog that barks incessantly all day every day. He's gone to the neighbour a few times (as have others) but the dog keeps on barking.

What next steps does he need to take? Is it a complaint to his Local Authority and onto the District Court? If so does this mean that he'd then have to take a day off to go to court?

    Thanks folks.

Assuming your neighbours dog is smaller and yours is bigger:

    Barking dogs

Excessive dog barking that causes a nuisance is an offence. The District Court can make an order requiring the reduction of excessive barking by a dog, can limit the number of dogs that can be kept on a premises or can direct that a dog be delivered to a dog warden as an unwanted dog.

You can make a complaint about excessive barking to the District Court under Noise Regulations. Before you do this, you must first inform the dog owner of your intention by completing a special form under the Control of Dogs Act, 1986.

This seems to be the action you need to take. It's from the citizens information site, the links for forms are on that site. Let's just hope the dog doesn't end up paying for the actions of an irresponsible owner.

get one of those zapper things so every time it barks you press it the dog hears a really high pitched sound and shuts up!

If he's already talked to the neighbour then the next step is the warden or the gardaí. They can issue a nuisance order.

Is there any cases in the pubdlic domain of judgments made by the The District Court?

Wont the warden or the gardaí have no interest in this sort of thing?
