Yes, its a scam don't go near it.

If you are on prepay you will find €10 credit missing from you account if you enter your details. They will also use all your web-texts to send on the message again, resulting in you getting loads of messages and calls from other people.

As far I know official messages from O2 wont come from an '086' number, its usually '50202' or something along those lines.

They wont ask for details such as your password from you anyway.

I suppose there is no way O2 could just block this scam attempt? Or would that be too easy.

I'm with 3 and i got it this morning

They can't block them because they're using all different numbers. People are clicking the link inputting there mobile number and password. the scammer then uses the information to login to the website and send more spam webtext from another number and so on. How bored must these scammers be.

Got one of these but it was o2upgrade.biz

The dummies sent it from an 087 number so that didn't make sense for a start.

o2 are aware of this problem and are not doing enough to warn customers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 782 ✭✭✭gibo_ie

In fairness, i just got a text from O2 (50202 with the following:
"Be aware of fraudulent emails+texts claiming to be from O2 asking you to open a link. If you get a suspicious message, do not respond. See o2.ie for info. From O2."

So maybe they are doing something about it ehh....

They should warn ALL of their customers.

to be fair they did have a warning when you check your balance (*100#) and a phishing warning pop up when you log on to your o2 account.
