One less Labour Councillor in Fingal, Howth-Malahide Ward Councillor Cian O'Callaghan has resigned from the Labour Party

And JR the property Developer managed to settle one of his court cases.

here's newly co-opted labour cllr judy dunne web page http://www.labour.ie/judydunne/

she lists the ways in which she is active in the community which again makes me wonder why she needs to co-opted onto the council a year before an elction to establish herself

seems like she said either i get a new job or go for councillor and i need a wage now

of course no other councillors will say a word cos they and their party are just as likely to do the same

Do you know according to FCC she lives in "Portmarncok, Co. Dublin"

Im no fan of JR or his party for that matter but I have been having a bit of a battle recently concerning an issue Iv had to deal with in Beaumont. I tried to deal with the hospital as much as I could but the bull****, incompetency and bureaucracy was never ending so I ended up contacting the Ministers office and have to say I got a very positive response and a follow up call and email from him and hospital CEO. More importantly the issue was resolved. (for now).

So for now Im happy with this public rep. What the process Iv been through has shown me is what a minefield he is dealing with. Iv really experienced at first hand what people mean when they say "the right hand does not know what the left is doing". I actually heard David Davin-power on radio saying during the week he was the one who forecast on air he would be gone by last Christmas but had to concede he is doing well!!

as minister that the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing is his fault

In most cases I would agree with you 100% but He inherited a mine field, a mess and even I would not hold him responsible for the incompetence of some of the staff in Beaumont. However some of the senior civil servants and administrators in the hospital who have been there for years are obviously not up to the task of providing a proper health service.

If he wants to spend money someone should be brought in from outside Ireland, to clean up our hospital services .

I do intend asking a few questions of him and Alan when I get over the shock of dealing with them. And if need be...... ah I will leave it at that for now.

the minister for health was responsibly for it then and the minisiter for health is responsibly for it now

That's a disgrace. If a priest, rabbi, senator, TD, doctor, mother, friend, whatever, is in court to provide support without interfering or influencing proceedings - onwhat grounds can the judge order that they cannot remain in the courtroom?

He obviously was intending to speak for his constituent as Mr Ryan was quoted after "I was there to give an extra voice to a constituent" rather than just standing beside them.

I have to side with the Judge or you make a court room into the Jerry Springer Show with various people turning up to have a say. Brendan Ryan could have supported the Lady from the back of the court and legal representatives could have spoken for her without any fuss or distress to the Lady in question. The Judge may have over-reacted with the second request for Ryan to leave but does it not raise unease that a member of a government party seemly tried to involve themselves in a legal case?

Might be worth starting a separate thread on the 2014 Fingal Local elections
and the various candidates bio's if the mods will allow....

David Healy is running again for the Greens in the Howth-Malahide Ward

the http://northcountyleader.ie/local-politics filling up with candidates pointing at things, as they say paper never refused ink

Always the way. More or less nailed on candidates suddenly start off as "concerned residents" to get their name known, who then feel they must run to correct the wrongs of the council.

Ken Duffy the Green Party candidate for the Swords Ward was on Joe Duffy Liveline last week speaking about FCC chopping down street trees. He was a "concerned resident" who failed to mention his party affiliation but made sure his name was mentioned frequently.

At least the Local Area Representative(LARs) system is little more transparent.

Well the only significant boundary change in Fingal is the movement of Waterside from Swords to the Howth-Malahide Ward. I haven't heard yet of any of the outgoing councillors retiring before next year's election, maybe someone here knows more? Below is a list of sitting, declared and the LARs for 3/5 of the Fingal Wards that this forum covers. I included the candidates geographic stronghold as that can be key in a candidates potential to gain transfers. If anyone sees any mistakes or has more info on candidates it would be very much welcome.

    A few (probably stupid!) questions:

    How are the LARs appointed/elected?
I don't remember voting for them, but may have missed it.

You mention there is 8 sitting councillors, but only list 5 of them. Are we getting more this time, or are there existing councillors confirmed non-runners?

    What's CAPTA ?

'local area representatives' are people the party chose to be candidates and then they get busy pushing to have them pointing at things in local papers

we're getting a lot more councillors

    A few (probably stupid!) questions:

    How are the LARs appointed/elected?

I don't remember voting for them, but may have missed it.

Local Area Representatives are party representatives. Since I am not a member of any political party I haven't a clue how each party selects them.

It's a more open system of the "concerned local resident" who pops up to point at things before a local election. The LAR often acts as the local party spokesperson in an area were the party has no elected representative. An example would be local Rush Man(the Cork part:D) Brian Dennehy who crops up in the local papers to give the party view on matters that deal with the Rush area.

You mention there is 8 sitting councillors, but only list 5 of them. Are we getting more this time, or are there existing councillors confirmed non-runners?

We are under represented in Fingal apparently so at the next election the number of councillors in Fingal will increase from 24 to 42. As will the costs too......

I haven't read yet if any of the current outgoing are not standing again. Labour in the Howth Ward got Peter Coyle to retire early so they could co-opt Judy Dunne into the position and give her less than a year in the role. Should be an advantage over novice candidates.
    What's CAPTA ?

Campaign Against Property Tax and Austerity which is Allied with CAHWT(Campaign Against Home & Water Taxes) at the next local election. It's really the Socialist party under a new brand name as at least two of the outgoing Socialist councillors are standing under the CAPTA/CAHWT banner.

Cllr O'Leary seems to be no longer PA for the Minister of Health. His poor record of attending FCC meetings should improve in time for the re-election campaign.

The fellow who seems to have replaced him was PA for George Lee and Peter Mathews so what price for JR getting kicked out of FG or leaving politics?:D

does he qualify for a pension?

Well he entered Politics, to sort out the Dept. of Health.

When Enda runs out of patience, just in time to groom Alan Farrell, to be the No 1 FG Candidate, expect JR to renew his Doctors Licence and return to his practice, and/or Property Development
